HomeMy WebLinkAboutReport of the Engineer May 1980VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS REPORT OF ENGINEER - May 1980 SEWER LINES Approximately 1000 feet of 8 -inch sewer line was replaced in Cayuga Heights Road to eliminate infiltration and to decrease the amount of maintenance nec- essary for removal of roots when cleaning the sewer line. The work started at about the intersection of Hanshaw Road and Cayuga Heights Road and continues to Upland Road. Our limited crew will then have to move to a road patching program, but it is intended that we will be back on sewer line work in Cayuga Heights Road or Upland Road in the fall. PERSONNEL We have had a number of medical leaves. Mr. Larry Marshall was out with what was described as a mild heart attack; and after returning to work, then had to leave again and is presently on sick leave. Mr. James McKinney had to have all his teeth extracted and again was on sick leave for a week. Both Mr. Dupuy and Mr. Hoyt have been on sick leave with strained backs. This has made it difficult for the Public Works Department to operate and necessitated the hiring of contract labor in some of the sewer line replacement work. SEWER PLANT An emergency situation at the plant has developed because of the breakdown of our tank truck. Removal of sludge at this time of year is necessary. Cost of drying sludge anal removal is inefficient and costly. It is proposed to replace the present wet sludge tank truck with a used heavy -duty truck at a net cost of $12,750. The details will be available at the Board meeting. KING DRAINAGE The Engineer has further discussed the drainage problem on the King property with Mr. King, and he has agreed that a Swale will solve the problem. At the present we are waiting for a proper statement of the work to be done to be signed by Mr. King and the Village and for weather that would dry out the soil sufficiently to allow the grading work. Also, Mr. Penalver's land to the north would be graded at the same time to solve the drainage problem in the area that adjoins the Schoenfeld property. KOVACS DRAINAGE PROBLEM The Eningeer has investigated the complaints of Mary Kovacs just north of a pedestrian right of way off North Triphammer Road. Removal of brush in the stream bed on the Kovacs property is requested and a drainage system to drain water from the pedestrian right of way into the creek is also requested. A meeting was to be set up between the Kovacs's lawyer and representatives and the Village representatives, but to date has not been scheduled.
