McEWEN I 636 HANSHAW ROAD • ITHACA. NEW YORK 14850 • TELEPHONE 607. 257 -1011 CHIEF OF POLICE February 19, 1980 Honorable Frederick G. Marcham, Mayor Members of the Hoard of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights I respectfully submit the report of the activities of the Cayuga Heights Police Department for the Year 1979- The number of complaints handled by the Department remained about the same in 1979 compared to 1978, although the complexity of some of the 1979 complaints increased which resulted in increased investigation time and overtime by the officers. The number of Driving While Intoxicated arrests increased from 11 in 1978 to 23 in 1979. The first forcible rape case in over fifteen years was reported. There was also one attempted rape reported during 1979. Criminal & non V &T Law arrests increased from 37 in 1978 to 55 in 1979 and juvenile cases handled decreased from 56 to 23. Vehicle & Traffic Law arrests increased from 1,017 to 1,236 and parking tickets increased from 288 to 319. The responses to medical emergencies or first aid calls increased from 10 in 1978 to 32 in 1979. This was primarily due to our attempts at increasing public awareness of the service provided for such calls in conjunction with the Cayuga Heights Fire Dept. First Aid Squad. We pledge to continue to provide quality police protection and service to the Village and appreciate the support and cooperation of the Mayor, the Village Board, other Village Officers and employees and residents.
