George, Chief RE: Report of the Cayuga Heights Fire Department for the month of January 1979 There were 14 general alarms and 12 incident responses in January 1979. On January 4th, at 7:21 a.m., the Department was called to Pyramid Mall on mutual aid. A detection system malfunction was the cause of the alarm. Thirteen men and 3 trucks responded. Also on January 4th, at 10:18 a.m., the Department was called to 106 Cayuga Height. Road for a flooded basement. Seven men and two trucks responded. On January 5th, at 3:20 a.m., the Department was called to Pyramid Mall. A detec- tion system malfunction was the cause of the alarm. Nine men and 3 trucks responded. C' A passing motorist observing smoke on the roof of the residence at 1419 Hanshaw Road at 1:06 a.m. called the Department. The smoke was found to be coming from a chimney. Twenty -four men and 4 trucks responded. On January 9th, at 9:36 p.m., the Department was called to Route 13 to assist the police at an auto accident. Twenty men and two trucks responded. An auto fire at 107 Devon Road on January 11th, at 12:40 p.m., called out the Department. Eleven men and two trucks responded. On January 11th, at 1:15 p.m., and again at 5:14 p.m., the Department was called to 310 Triphammer Road. Both alarms were caused by the detection system malfunc- tioning. At the first alarm, 8 men and 4 trucks responded. On the second alarm, 19 men and 4 trucks responded. On January 24th, at 2:30 a.m., the Department was called on mutual aid to the Holiday Inn. An overheated furnace set of the fire detection system. There was no fire. Seventeen men and 3 trucks answered the alarm. A car fire at 425 Wyckoff Ave. was responsible for an alarm on January 24th, at 7:10 p.m. Eighteen men and two trucks responded. On January 25th, at 12:30 p.m., the Department was called to 106 Birchwood where a person was overcome with carbon monoxide. The gas penetrated the house from an auto engine left running in the attached garage. The First Aid Squad found the woman unconscious and not breathing. CPR and oxygen was used to revive the woman, who was then transported to the hospital by ambulance. Smoke effectors wer used to clear the house of gas. On January 29th, at 5:15 p.m., a detection system malfunction at Pyramid Mall called out the Department on mutual aid. Sixteen men and three trucks responded. y Report of Fire Department - January 1979 page 2 On January 29th, at 9:22 p.m., a furnace explosion called out the Department. Thirty -six men and 4 trucks responded. The 12 incident calls were as follows: flooding basements - 4; medical emergency 7; smoke investigation -1. The Fire Council requests permission of the Board to purchase two Scott Air Pacs and two extra air tanks at a cost of $1,289.00. These are to replace two M.S.A. air pats which are over 15 years old and failing tests. The necessary funds for this purchase were approved and are it this year's budget.
