CAYUGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT

RE: Report of the Fire Department for the month of October 1978.
There were II general fire alarms and 8 incident reports in the month of October.
On October 6th, at 1:07 p.m., the Department was called to DeWitt Junior High School
because of smoke In the auditorium. investigation revealed a burned -out bearing in
an exhaust fan. Twenty men and 4 trucks responded.
On October 13th, at 8:17 p.m., the Department responded to Route 13 for a car fire.
Twenty -one men and 3 trucks responded.
A stove fire was responsible for a fire call to Lansing West Apartments on Oct. 14th
at 5:15 a.m. Nineteen men and 3 trucks responded.
On October 17th, at 1:46 p.m., the Department was called to BOLES. A defective smoke
detector was responsible for the false alarm. Fifteen men and 4 trucks responded.
A false alarm at BOCES was responsible for a fire call on October 22nd, at 12:13 p.m.
A defective smoke detector was again responsible for the alarm. Twenty -six men and
3 trucks responded.
On October 22nd, at 4:07 p.m., the Department was called to 507 Cayuga Heights Road.
There was no fire. Twenty -five men and 4 trucks responded.
On October 22nd, at 10:53 p.m., the Department responded to a mutual aid call at the
South Lansing School for a bedroom fire. Twenty -five men and 2 trucks responded.
On October 23rd, at 8:20 a.m., the Department was called to BOCES on a false alarm.
It was found a Telephone Company lineman accidently shorted the lines on a pole.
Sixteen men and 5 trucks responded.
A false alarm at 507 Cayuga Heights Road was responsible for an alarm on Oct. 24th
at 1:25 p.m. Fourteen men and two trucks responded.
On October 29th, at 4:09 p.m., the Department responded to a washing machine fire at
406 Cayuga Heights Road. Eighteen men and 3 trucks responded.
On October 31st, at 6:00 p.m., the members were requested to stand by for the evening
at the Fire Station because of Halloeen; as in previous years, there has been several
leaf fires. Twenty -three men participated.
The incident calls were as follow: first aid calls - 3; assist Cayuga Heights
Police - 4; flooded basement - I.
