REPORT OF ENGINEER - October 1978
• SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT
A bill has been received from McGuire and Bennett for the completion of the grit
chamber, the last change order and work to be done on the Sewage Treatment Plant.
Final inspection of this work is in process. Because this is the only money due
McGuire and Bennett for the entire construction Job, payment should be made con-
tingent upon the contractor's meeting any obligations he has for the hole that
developed in our outfail pipe and the repair of this pipe. Within a few weeks the
lake level will have dropped to a point where Inspection can be made of this area
where the outfail was damaged by what appears to be discarded sheet piling. The
Village work force will do the inspecting and the removing of the sheet piling and
will keep records of time and equipment used for possible reimbursement by our
contractor, McGuire and Bennett, if the t"pohsI01114y is deemed to be theirs.
A 3500 - gallon, stainless s•leal tank was purchased rather than a 3000 - gallon steel
tank for the Sewage Plant sludge dispcsal truck. The Board approved purchase price
of $1000 for this tank was a good purchase. The truck cab and chassis for the
sludge truck was purchased for the approved price of $2700.
The Village has received no +ifi< ;ation that its application for operation and main-
tenance grant has been approved, and 25% of the cost will be credited to the
Village. The grant was approved on the. basis that continuing efforts to eliminate
excessive inflow be continued and that a program of investigating alternative
chemicals be continued to achieve an outfall Ph of not more than "I ".
• STREETS
Bids on the sale of the 1962 Brockway truck were received by the Village Clerk.
The highest bid was $776, and formalization of the Board's acceptance of this bid
Is requested.
Examination of -the tree on Devon Road near the Roy Park property entrance that was
hit by a moving -truck was examined for removal. It was determined by the Village
Forester that the tree should not be removed. At present, the tree does not lean
out over the road and does not present a hazard to passing vehicles. In fact, if
it were removed, a guard post would have to be placed where the tree now stands
to protect against cars going off into a ravine.
Cambridge Place was inspected for the proper amount of compacted gravel and for
the proper ditching and road width on the straightaway and also on the cul de sac.
In all respects -this met the requirements of the Village specifications. The
area of Cambridge Place and land to -the east and north were inspected for drainage;
and maps of the drainage in the area, provided by Mr. Schoenfeld, were turned over
to the Village attorney for his Inspection.
FIRE HOUSE
The driveway in front of the north -two bays was repaved, and the driveway in front
of the south two bays was sealed except in two spots which were determined to be
slightly low and were patched by the contractor while he was on the job. In the
• Spring, these newly patched areas gill also be sealed to improve the aesthetics.

PARKS
We have received an estimate from a mason to do all the masonry work on the three
lookout stations at Sunset Park for $500 on the basis that the V1l)age would pro-
vide all the materials. There are a number of cap stones that would have to be
replaced, and the cement mortar should not exceed $200 for al the materials
neoded. With rio:;rd approval, this work should be started as soon as possible
to prevent further winter damage.
As a civic: service, Sigma Chi fraternity has offered to remove the brush on the
hillside at Sunset Park, thereby improving the view from the park. It is assumed
the-! this +r+rk—,wouid be done, If approved, on a weekend so that overtime would not
bu required of the Village work crew. The Monday following the trimming all brush
would be picked up by tho Village work forces for disposal.
We have also rcce!ved an offer to remove some trees on the lower part of Sunset
Park to enhance tree view from the park and also remove a potential blockage of the
view from -the park. The interest of the resident !n providing this tree removal
would be improvement of the view from his residence.
WATER
The ownership of the pumping house near the Village barn at the end of Sheldon Rd.
should be determined so :that repairs to the poured concrete roof can be made before
further deterioration. Also, the Sheldon Road tank needs painting.
