Marcham, Mayor Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights SUBJECT: Report of the Police Chief for May 1978 The Police Department handled 78 complaints and investigated 8 motor vehicle accidents. There were 53 traffic tickets and 13 parking tickets issued during the month. There were six felony complain Lo during the month, one for burglary at an apartment complex, three for grand larceny from a fraternity house, one for grand larceny of a motor vehicle, and one for criminal possession of a forged instrument. There were twenty -three misdemeanor complaints, six for petit larceny, six for criminal trespass, five for bad checks, four for criminal mischief, one for aggravated harassment and one for attempt to commit the crime of larceny. Two persons were arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, one of which will be a felony, and fifteen juveniles were apprehended for criminal trespass. Officer Robert Day will change from full -time to part -time status as of July 2, 1978 when he will go to work full -time as a Sergeant for the Dryden Police Dept. He is entitled to 48 hours of overtime pay at his full -time rate of $5.92 per hour for a total of $284.16 and I recommend that the Village Board pass a resolution authorizing him to be paid this amount. Officer Day will continue as a part -time officer at a rate of $4.25 per hour. It will be necessary for us to have at least one additional part -time officer to work until a replacement is hired for Officer Day and I recommend that the Village Board authorize the hiring of Dale Johnson effective June 20, 1978 at an hourly rate of $4.00 per hour. Dale has been a full -time officer with the Cornell Safety Division and will be starting full -time at Dryden Police Dept. on July 2, 1978. He has already completed basic police officer training and passed a civil service test and therefore is eligible for immediate appointment. We also have David P. Barnes as a part -time officer at a rate of $4.00 per hour. I have been informed that preparations are underway for developing Cambridge Place and the street lighting committee will make a recommendation in this regard for Board consideration. The Committee will also have other street lighting recommendations for Board consideration. We also need Village Board approval to purchase 1145 20 stamps for the Police Department and 1500 22 stamps for the Village Justice to be used on stamped envelopes already on hand. Officer David J. wall has completed a two week school in Binghamton from May 15th through May 26th on Police Instructor Development. There was a total of $4,470.96 in property reported lost or stolen during the month and $4,000.00 in property recovered by the Police Department.
