HomeMy WebLinkAboutReport of Mayor June 1978• VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS REPORT OF MAYOR - June 1978 Mr. Kenerson, In behalf of the United Way, has raised for the first time in my experience, the question should the Village, as a unit of local government, con- tribute to the Annual Fund Drive. This is a matter of high policy, beginning with the simple legal question whether it Is lawful for the Village to use Its funds for such a purpose. i have a letter from Mrs. Cady, as follows: You have before you Mr. Schoenfeld's letter concerning development of his pro- perty In the Williamsburg Park area. The point for discussion by this Board is his wish to avoid part of the sales tax that would be charged to him for road building supplies. You have received copies of Mr. Myers's letter regarding development of the Savage Farm property. Do you wish to respond to it? I remind the Board that, in my judgment, a serious issue will arise shortly over development of a new sewer program in the Village of Lansing. Many years ago, when an overall program for the local municipalities was being developed, a fea- ture of all plans was building a so- called Railroad Trunk Sewer to lead from the Cayuga Heights Road area in what is now tie Village of Lansing to our plant. Because of objections by the Town of Lansing this trunk sewer was not built. is The present plans being developed by the Village of Lansing seem to count on the use of such a trunk sewer. The earlier plans assumed that all co- operating muni- cipalities would join in sharing the cost of the sewer from a point at our Village line to the plant. I think we must establish soon what obligation rests on the co- operating munici- palities today. The cooperative body, that was intended at one point to manage the affairs of the plant and total sewer district, never came into legal exis- tence. The County Agency, which had the same purpose, has been dormant. This Village still owns and manages the intermunicipal sewer plant. What aro our responsibilities, if any, concerning the Railroad Trunk Sewer other than a moral commitment to share in its cost? I have a mimeographed statement from Mrs. Doris Bacon of the Cayuga Lake Conser- vation Association who wishes to alert us to the problem of a possible location of nuclear waste storage facilities in this area. She asks that we send her copies of any resolutions regarding this matter we may make. 0
