VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS
0 REPORT OF ENGINEER - June 1978
CULVERTS
The wing weIIfor a culvert on the foss property at the corner of WIrftrop Drive and
Simsbury Drive was inspected by the Engineer. Also, plans for the installation of
construction work wore reviewed by the Engineer. At the time of original construc-
tion, a wing wall of reinforced concrete was planned for the property side of the
culvert similar to the one on the street side. The wing wall on the property sido
was not constructed because of a request from the Rosses that the stone wall which
was already In place on the property side be left standing. The stone wall has
now deteriorated and fallen into the creek. To be property constructed the wall on
the property side would have to have an entirely now foundation of reinforced con-
crete; and it is the recommendation of the Engineer that, If the Village decides to
replace the wing wall, the entire structure should be built out of reinforcec on-
crate as originally designed.
The culvert under Cayuga Heights Road Just north of 410 Cayuga Heights Road has
deteriorated and Is in the process of being replaced.
STREETS
The ditching and driveway culvert work on Cayuga Heights Road at Rockcastle's
• property and across from Rockcastle's property has been completed, and the water
no longer flows on the grass between the street and the sidewalk.
The west edge of North Sunset Drive, which broke up badly this Spring due to the
NYS Electric and Gas trucks parking there during construction work, has been re-
placed by NYS Electric and Gas Corparatlon. Damage to the road was brought to our
attention by Professor Knight Biggerstaff's letter of May 15, 1978.
WATER LINE AT SIGMA CHI
Sigma Chi fraternity at 106 Cayuga Heights Road constructed a separate water line
Into their house for a sprinkler system. In doing so a channel was opened for water
to flow from the east side of Cayuga Heights Road directly toward their house. The
water from the east side of the road was alleged to be not only ground water but
also water from a leaking water main which has caused the Village trouble in the
recent past. Because there was no problem of water at the Sigma Chi house prior
to the excavation for a sprinkler system line, it Is the Village Engineer's opin-
ion that it is their problem to solve. It was suggested that a diversion ditch on
each side of the road be dug to divert the water Into the creek Just south of Sigma
Chi. This was done by the contractors, and seemed to solve the problem.
A request was received from Mr. Norm Freeman of the Old Country Club Road to repave
Old Country Club road. Mr. Freeman was informed that this road was never dedicated
to the Village of Cayuga Heights and Is, so far as we can confirm, the Joint pro-
perty of Lakeland Homes and the First Congregational Church of Ithaca, his neighbor
to the south.
The fence at the property owned by the Village at the corner of Hanshaw and Trip-
hammer Roads has been repaired and painted.
