Marchem, Mayor Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights SUBJECT: Report of the Police Chief for March 1978 The Police Department handled 76 complaints and investigated 8 motor vehicle accidents. There were 144 traffic tickets and 33 parking tickets issued during the month. There were two felony complaints during the month, one for burglary and one for grand larceny. There were twenty -four misdemeanor complaints, eleven for bad checks, five for criminal mischief, four for petit larceny, three for criminal trespass, and one for illegal possession of fireworks. One person was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and eleven juveniles were apprehended during the month, nine for criminal mischief and two for unlawful possession of fireworks. Bids were opened at 12 noon on March 31st for a new police car and they were $5,170.13 from Murphy Chevrolet, Trumansburg, and $5,388.00 from Stafford Chevrolet, Dryden. I recommend the Board authorize the award of the bid to Murphy Chevrolet as the low bidder. I have received a quotation from Agway Petroleum Corporation for a new 1,000 ga]long underground tank, electric pump, pipe, fillings and base for pump and labor not including our digging the hole and trench, in the amount of $854.00. I recommend that authorize the purchase and installation of this tank and pump for unleaded gasoline so that it can be installed and ready for operation by the time the new police car is delivered. In recent discussions with members of the Ithaca Town Board they have informed me that they are purchasing new traffic counters. They have offered us the use of the counters if we will allow them to use one of our radar units to determine the speed of vehicles on their highways for study purposes. I recommend that the Board authorize me to do this inasmuch as it will allow us to update our traffic counts without any additional cost to the Village. There was a total of $569.90 in property reported lost or stolen during the month and $320.35 in property recovered by the police department. The officers worked a total of 29 hours overtime during the month. • Resxectfully Harlin R. /McEwen Chief of Police
