HomeMy WebLinkAboutReport of the Police Chief for Jan 1978POLICE DEPARTMUIT VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS February 20, 1978 TO: Honorable Frederick G. Marcham, Mayor Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights SUBJECT: Report of the Police Chief for Jannw7 1978 The Police Department handled 72 complaints and investigated 13 motor vehicle accidents. There were 32 traffic tickets and 34 parking tickets issued during the month. There was one felony complaint during the month, that being a residential burglary. There were twelve misdemeanor complaints, five for criminal mischief, two for petit larceny, two for bad checks, two for criminal trespass, and one for aggravated harassment. There was one person arrested for Driving While Intoxicated during the month. I have received a letter from the Secretary of the Lansing Town Planning Board, William 11. Bement, and they have recommended to the Lansing Town Board that they adopt the renumbering proposal for North Triphammer Rd. I have given a copy to Mayor Marcham and requested that he schedule a public hearing at 7:15 P.M, on March 20, 1978 to consider the proposal for Cayuga Heights. • On Friday, January 27, 1978, as the result of the flooding of N.Y. State Route 13 in the City of Ithaca, the highway was closed for southbound traffic at North Triphammer Road. This necessitated all southbound traffic to proceed south on North Triphammer Road in Cayuga Heights to the Corners at Renshaw Road. A massive traffic jam resulted at Hanshaw Road/ North Triphammer Road/Triphammer Road and E. Upland Road. This required two officers to direct traffic from about 7:45 A.M. until 9:30 A.M., from 11:30 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. and again from 3:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at this intersection. The problem was so severe during the afternoon and evening, we requested assistance from a Sheriff's Deputy and it took three officers over four hours to keep the traffic moving. On Saturday morning, January 28th, we borrowed Rte 13/Detour signs from the County Highway Dept. and the N.Y. State Dept. of Transportation to facilitate better movement of traffic. Rte 13 was closed again on the evening of February 7th and all indications are that the problem may be a long standing one. Thug was a total of $2,240.17 in property reported lost or stolen during the month and 5x142.95 in property recovered by the police department. The officers worked a total of 28 hours overtime during the month. Respectfully, ,1, R. Harlin R. McEw Chief of Police • HRM:bp
