The 38 incidents were as follows: Assist at an auto accident - I; flooded
buildings - 24; defective stove - I; animal in chimney - I; stand by at station
for storm - 7; electrical short - 2; assist citizen - 1; medical emergency - I.
Truck 234 was involved in two, not too serious accidents. On January 30th, while
responding to a mutual aid call in Ithaca, Truck 234 was going down University Ave.
when a car ahead of our truck stopped too quickly. The driver of 234 applied his
brakes, the front of the truck skidded to the right, and the front bumper damaged
a front fender and door of a parked half -ton truck.
When Truck 234 returned to the station the driver drove to the rear of the station
to enter a rear door. He was seen coming and the door bottom was activated to
open a rear door. The driver had to stop as a car was parked in front of the door.
Another fireman, because of the bad weather, stopped the door before it was fully
open. The truck driver moved the parked car then drove No. 234 Into the station.
The bucket on the ladder hit the door destroying the bottom section. There were
no injuries and no damage to Truck 234 in either accident.
