REPORT OF THE FIRE CHIEF

RE: Fire Department Report for the month of April 1977
There were 13 general alarms and 3 incident calls in April 1977.
On April 6th, at 12:01 a.m., the Department responded to Pyramid Mall on a mutual
aid call for a false alarm caused by an alarm malfunction. Twenty -two men respond-
ed.
Also on April 6th, at 9:35 p.m., a malicious false alarm called the Department to
the Cayuga Heights School. Twenty -two men and four pieces of apparatus responded.
A smoke odor was responsible for a call to 999 Triphammer Road on April 8th, at
12:42 p.m. Nineteen men and four pieces of apparatus responded.
On April Ilth, at 3:53 p.m., a water surge caused an alarm malfunction at the
Jamesway Store. Twelve men and two pieces of apparatus responded.
Also on April Ilth, at 4:48 p.m., the Department responded to a garage fire at
the Lansing West Apartments. Eighteen men and 3 pieces of apparatus responded.
A chimney fire at 304 The Parkway called out the Department on April 17th, at
5:48 p.m. Twenty -one men and three pieces of apparatus responded.
On April 20th, at 4:50 p.m., a grass fire called the Department to 17 Muriel St.
Twenty -six men and 3 pieces of apparatus responded.
A drop in water pressure caused a false alarm at the Hurlburt House on Triphammer
Road on April 21st at 6:45 p.m. Twenty -two men and 3 pieces of equipment responded.
On April 22nd, at 10:15 p.m., during a rain storm, a falling tree branch shorted
out a pole transformer which caused a false alarm at the Northeast School. Twelve
men and three pieces of apparatus responded.
The Department was called to the Ornithology Lab on Sapsucker Woods Road on April
24th, at 8:59 p.m., where a furnace blew up. Twenty -seven men and 3 pieces of
apparatus responded.
On April 26th, at 8:30 p.m., a crass fire was responsible for a call to Burleigh Dr.
Twenty -three men and two pieces cf apparatus responded.
An alarm malfunction called the Department to the Cornell Falcon Lab on Sapsucker
Woods Road on April 28th at 5:42 p.m. Twenty -six men and 3 pieces of apparatus
responded.
• On April 29th, at 1:29 p.m., a maliciuos false alarm at 108 Birchwood Drive called
out the Department. Ten men and two pieces of apparatus responded.

There were 3 incident calls in April. An animal in a chimney at 1050 Highland Rd.,
on April 23rd; an alarm malfunction was investigated at Cayuga Heights School on
April 4th; and a smoke odor which was caused by a burned out light ballast at
210 Texas Lane on April Ist.
In the 1977 -78 Fire Dept. budget we have $1,750.00 for fire hose. As it takes
some time for an order to be processed, I would like to ask permission to order the
following at this time:
500 ft. 3 -in. Boston 100`;, polyester 600# tdst fire hose'
$2.12 /foot = $1060.00
250 ft. 11-in. Boston 100% polyester 600# test fire hose
S -99 per foot = 247.50
4 ea. 25 -ft. lengths of 3 -in. fire hose - Boston 100% polyester
0 $70.00 per length = 280.00
$1587.50
At the April 1977 meeting of the Fire Company and the Fire Council, the following
officers were elected for 1977 -78 and would ask your approval in the form of a
motion.
