£UBJLCT: Report of the Police Chief for December 1976
The Police Department handled 72 complaints and investigated 10 motor
vehicle accidents. There vere 52 traffic tickets and 17. parking tickets
issued during the month.
There vas one felony reported during the month, that being a grand larceny.
There were tt.enty -eight misdemeanor complaints, sixteen for bad checks, five
for petit larceny, three for criminal trespass, two for criminal mischief,
one for aggravated harassment and one for criminal possession of a controlled
substance.
Five persons were arrested for driving while intoxicated, one person for
petit larceny, one person for criminal possession of a controlled substance
seventh degree and one person w,s arrested for issuing a bad check.
I have spoken to Dr. Bud Tennant, President of the Tompkins County S.P.C.A.,
and he informs me the wording of the contract which expired on 12/1/76 is
allright for a nev contract. Therefore, I mould request that the Board
authorize the Mayor to sign a new contrast for the period January 1, 1977
thru December 11, 1977. The contract will then need to be signed by
Dr. Tennant and forwarded to the Commissioner of Agriculture end Markets
for approval. In connection with this, the Tompkins County Board of
Representatives recently passed a local lew to establish new seizure fees
for dogs. After consulting with Village Attorney Sovocool, we would
recommend that the fees in our dog control ordinance be changed to be
uniform with the County fees and that the whole dog control ordinance
be passed as a local law. This will require a public hearing prior to
the February Village Board meeting.
There ryes a total of ',753.12 in property reported lost or stolen during
the month and '- 321.53 in property recovered by the Police Department.
The officers corked a total of 40 hours overtime during the month.
Respectfully, yy
Harlin R. Heinen
