George, Fire Chief RE: Fire Department report for the month of November 1976 There were II fire calls and 5 Incident reports in the month of November. On November 3rd, at 3:48 p.m., a malicious false alarm called out the Department to the DeWitt Jr. High School. Four pieces of apparatus and 14 men responded. The alarm is being Investigated by the Sheriff's Dept. and school authorities. On November 5th, the Department responded to two mutual aid calls to Pyramid Mall where on both occasions a fire had been set in an empty store. The ladder truck, one engine, and car 261 responded to both calls. At the first alarm, at 5:30 p.m. 15 men responded. The second alarm, at 9:00 p.m., 21 men responded. On November 15th, at 4:46 p.m., the Department responded to 43 -0 Hasbrouck Apts. where an electrical element in a bathroom fan burned out. Five pieces of equip- ment and 20 men responded. • An electrical fire at 414 Cayuga Heights Road called out the Department on Nov. 15th, at 5 :40 p.m. Four pieces of equipment and 20 men responded. On November 18th, at 9:17 p.m., the Department was called to 1017 Cayuga Heights Road for a possible chimney fire. This was.during a company meeting, and 35 men were available and four pieces of apparatus responded. On November 20th, at 9:19 p.m., the Department responded to a mutual aid call to Lansing West Apartments where an occupant had reported heavy smoke. Two pieces of apparatus and 17 men responded. The heavy smoke, it was found, came from chimneys using fireplace fires. A false alarm at B.O.C.E.S. Building C, auto body shop, called out the Department. Three pieces of apparatus and 9 men responded. A student drove a car into the shop, and the exhaust smoke set off a smoke detector. On November 25th, the Department responded to Pyramid Mall at 12:08 a.m, when an apparent water surge set off a sprinkler alarm. Three pieces of apparatus and. 14 men responded. A malfunction In an interior alarm system called the Department to 108 Iroquois Rd. on November 29th, at 8:10 a.m. The occupants called the Fire Department immediate - 16, advising the call was a false alarm. One Assistant Chief responded to the residence. 0 REPORT OF FIRE CHIEF - November 1976 page 2 On November 29th, at 8:48 a.m., a malicious false alarm at Cayuga Heights School called out the Department. Three pieces of apparatus and 7 men responded before the monitors were advised the call was a false alarm. Investigation revealed an 8 -year old boy was responsible. The five incidents were: an Investigation of an open hydrant, a gasoline flush, an assist to the Sheriff's Dept., a street leaf fire, and a malfunctioning kitchen stove. FIRE INSPECTION REPORT - October 1976 During October the annual inspections of Cayuga Heights, Northeast, and DeWitt schools was conducted. Conditions relating to fire safety at each school remain excellent. Of note is the excellent cooperation of the School District concerning compliance with our recommendations. Their cooperation leaves little to be desired. On -site inspections have also been made where the Guidi Construction Company is working on the Corners Restaurant renovation project. Cooperation between the management of the restaurant, Guldl, and the Village's Interests Is excellent. • The inspection of B.O.C.E.S. is planned for the near future. 11
