George, Fire Chief RE: Fire Department report for the month of September 1976 There were 8 fire calls and 4 incident reports In September 1976. On September 1st at 7:00 a.m. the department was called to 115 Hanshaw Road to a house fire. The fire in the unoccupied home had been set under a stairway and was burning through the stairs. The house was filled with smoke and heat. It was necessary to break into the house to attack the fire. Four pieces of apparatus and 30 firemen responded. An oven fire at 110 Highgate Place called out the department at 2:45 p.m.. A breakdown in the insulation of the wall oven caused -Ire and smoke damage to the wall and cabinets. Three pieces of apparatus and 13 men responded. On September 18th, at 9:25 a.m., the department was called to 721 Hanshaw Road for a car fire. Two pieces of apparatus and 18 men responded. On September 21st, at 11:25 a.m., the Flexalarm sounded the horns but the fiexalarm did not show trouble or alarm. The monitors were notified that the alarm was false. A short circuit or a drop In line power was believed responsible for the false alarm. Twelve men responded. A malicious false alarm called out the department on September 22nd, at 4:30 p.m., to 112 Birchwood Drive. The Sheriff's Department is Investigating. Thirteen men and two pieces of apparatus responded. A defective smoke detector at the Cayuga Heights School was responsible for a false alarm on September 23rd at 9:41 a.m. Twelve men and four trucks responded. On September 25th, at 10:13 a.m., the department responded to 1464 Hanshaw Road for a car fire in a garage. Twenty men and three trucks responded. An accidental false alarm called the department to DeWitt High School on September 29th, at 11:22 a.m. A student accidently set off the alarm. Sixteen men and five trucks responded. The four Incident reports were as follows: I - vehicle accident and gasoline flush; 1 - fuel oil spill to flush street; I - first aid call; I - child locked In a bathroom.
