SUBJECT: Fire Department report for the month of July 1976
There were 10 fire calls and 54 incident reports in July 1976.
On July 2nd, at 6:00 p.m., a mutual aid call from the Ithaca Fire Department to
stand by at the Fireworks at Cornell. Engine 202, Car 261, and 12 men responded.
A false alarm at B.O.C.E.S. on July 5th at 1:02 a.m. caused by a malfunction
called out the department. Three pieces of equipment and 23 men responded.
Another false alarm was responsible for an alarm on July lith, at 4:15 p.m., at
607 Hanshaw Road. One engine and 14 men responded.
On July Ilth, at 4:30 p.m., wires down and burning on a lawn at 412 Ointhrop Dr.
was responsible for a general alarm. Two trucks and 14 men responded.
• A tree fire at 332 Winthrop Drive on July 11th at 4:45 p.m. called out one truck
and 14 men.
On July Ilth, at 5:20 p.m., a false alarm at 607 Hanshaw Road called out two
trucks and 14 men. The Alarm Company and Telephone Co. were both notified and
later reported lightning was probably responsible.
On July 13th, at 1:30 a.m., a mutual aid call • to Jamesway to assist Lansing
was received. One engine and 9 men responded.
At 10:30 a.m., on July 13th, the Ithaca Fire Dept. called for mutual aid because
of a water main break. Engine 203 and 20 men worked various hours from 10:30 a.m.
to 10:30 p.m. relay pumping from Six -Mile Creek to the Ithaca Filtration Plant.
On July 17th, at 5:28 a.m., a defective detector at Cayuga Heights School was
responsible for a false alarm. Four pieces of equipment and 12, men responded.
A fire in a roof at 208 Dearborn Place called out the department at 1:26 a.m, on
July 21st. One engine and 16 men responded. The Fire Dispatcher, upon receipt
of a call from Cornell, dispatched the Ithaca Department thinking it was their
territory. Upon learning the address was in Cayuga Heights, our department was
dispatched. Both departments co- operated in extinguishing the fire.

The Volunteers of the Cayuga Heights Fire Department deserve a great deal of
credit for two instances in July.
First, they responded to 48 calls In July to assist residents with flooded base-
ments and first floors in split -level homes. In one day, 27 men worked at various
hours from 4:00 p.m, to 3:00 a.m.
The second instance was on July 12th when we were called to assist the Ithaca
Fire Department in connection with a water line break, and our volunteers with
one of our engines pumped in relay to supply water from Six Mile Creek to the
filter plant. Our men worked from 11:00 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. laying lines,
pumping, and ,picking*up lines afterward.
JULY FIRE INSPECTION REPORT
Since last report, the following inspections have been made:
1) Monitored construction changes at 830 Hanshaw Road
2) Inspections at: H. Conley Liquors
Corners Laundromat
First National Bank of Ithaca
There were no recommendations as a result of the inspections. Fire extinguishers
were properly maintained, combustibles were not excessive when compared with
occupancies, and electrical wiring appeared satisfactory at all above locations.
