ALTERATIONS AND ADDITIONS TO VILLAGE SEWER TREATMENT PLANT
The Village Engineer met with representatives of Teetor- Dobbins; the general con-
tractor, Stewart and Bennett; the representative of our chain manufacturer; and
Gary Gleason, our Plant Operator, on Saturday, August 7th, to discuss the final
details to be completed by the contractor or supplier of goods and to determine If
any failure of material or workmanship has appeared during the warranty period
which will end on August 15, 1976, There are still some problems with chain wear
and the chain tightener in two locations. The representative of Jeffrey Chain Co.
has taken the matter back to his company for correction. There were a few punch
list items that were to be corrected by our electrical contractor such as a larger
drain hole In the electrical manhole near our primary settlement tanks. Gary
Gleason discussed at length the problems he has incurred In the operation of our
Iime feed system. Representatives of Toetor•Dobbins made note of the difficulties
and took information back to the home office for re- examination and possible
redesign.
Plans have been submitted to Stewai-i• and Bennott for tho enclosure structure around
the grit chamber. A proposal from Stewart and Bennett for this proposed change
and extra has not as yet been received.
Teetor - Dobbins objects to proceeding with the installation of the pipe vent with
is cap at the lake -side outfali structure under the conditions of the resolution con-
cerning this chance and extra as voted by the Board at their last regular meeting.
Mr. Wylen, of Teetor - Dobbins, used the ven•1• pipe as an insurance item and not
necessarily recommended by Teetor - Dobbins as a necessary Item for the operation
of the plant.
FLOOD DAMAGE
On Sunday, July 25th, the VTIlaga Engineer met with an engineer from EPA to exa-
mine all flood damages throughout the Village and to write up damage survey
reports. The EPA engineer was to flnTsh the damage survey reports on Monday,
July 26th; but because of a heavy work load in surveying the City of Ithaca damage
as well as our damage, the reports were not completed in Aime for the Village
Engineer to sign prior to his leaving town on July 27th. At the suggestion of
the EPA engineer, these damage survey reports were reviewed and signed by Mr.
Robert Tyrrell In the Villago Engineer's absence. The completion of the damage
survey reports signed by State and Federal officials were returned • through
the County Disaster Office late Friday, August 6th. These reports were the basis
of the completion of the project application for $13,000 for flood damage aid that
was submitted on Wednesday, August Ilth. The Village will receive this amount of
money In about two or three weeks. Upon the completion of the work as described
in the DSR's, an audit will be made. Any work not done or funds not spent would
require returning some of the $13,000. Any additional work or expense Justified
through the EPA and approved by them would be the basis for a supplemental appli-
cation for additional funds.
• Some work has been done on stream clearance, road repairs, etc., and additional
flood damage work will continue as soon as men and machines are available.
® STREETS
it was necessary to proceed with paving oP Triphammer road before flood dnmago
work w.-..is completed, as ibe coordination with thr3 supplier of material and the
scheduling of trucks and equipment from the other municipal Vries that cooperated
w!th us in paving the straet had boan arranged for this early part of August. A
new type of paving material was used for the top surface. It is called a sand mix
and is very smooth, giving the appearance that It would be very slippery when wet.
We irnve been assured that this In fact is not the case. Thir has been substantia-
ted by our short experience with this nc:w pavement.
