On June 27th and 28th, Officer Day traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada with an officer from the Ithncs Police Dept. to return a felony prisoner to the Tompkins County Jail. The travel expenses were charged to the District Attorney inasmuch as the prisoner is now under the jurisdiction of the County Court even though he was originally arrested by the Cayuga Heights Police Department. I would like to a ain bring the Village Board's attention the need for resolution to the problem of having someone from the Department of Public Works available for emergencies on nights, weekends and holidays. The severe storm we experienced on July 11th vas certainly unusual, but the Police Department is confronted with similar although perhaps less extensive emergencies on numerous occasions throughout each year in which assistance is needed from the DPW. I would again urge that the Public Works Committee meet vith me and discuss a possible solution to this problem. The officers worked a total of 21 hours overtime during the month.
