On Feb. 1, 1976, at 6:50 a.m., the Department was called to 110 Brandywine Dr. to in- vestigate a gas leak. It was found that an automobile in a basement garage had been leaking gasoline. The area was flushed with water. One engine and 13 men responded. Also on Feb. 1, 1976, at 5:56 p.m., the Department answered a call to 541 Warren Rd. where an overheated furnace filled the house with smoke. Two smoke ejectors were used to rid the house of smoke, and the furnace was turned off. Twenty -six men and three pieces of apparaturs responded. At 1:23 p.m. on Feb. 9, 1976, the Flexalarm sounded an alarm but did not show alarm or trouble on the Flexalarm Board. It was found that a telephone repair man had been working on a telephone line at BOCES and caused a short. Four men responded to the station before the monitors wore alerted to advise the call was a false alarm. An electrical surge into a house at 320 Hlghiand Rd. burned out fuses In a fuse box and set a wallboard wall on fire. One engine and car 261 responded with four men. The monitors were not alerted as the original call was to investigate a fuse box. A mutual aid call was received on Feb. 16, 1976, at 1:12 p.m., to the Tompkins County Airport to flush an airport apron with foam while gasoline was being removed from an airplane. One engine, Car 26! and 6 men responded. A smoke - filled shop at BOCES Bldg. D was responsible for an alarm on Feb. 18, 1976 at 7:25 p.m. It was found that a lead melting machine had been left on and caused the shop to fill with smoke. Two pieces of apparatus and 16 men responded. On February 25, 1976, at 6:05 p.m., the departmont was called to 1050 Highland Rd. where an oven fire from burned food filled a kitchen with smoke. Three tracks and 16 men responded. A false alarm at Bldg. C at DOCFS on Feb. 27, 1976, at 1:45 p.m., was responsible for an alarm. An auto in an auto shop was startad up, and the smoke from the exhaust activated a smoke detector. The teacher in the class called the Fire Dept. and reported the alarm was false; as a result, there was no engine or manpower response. A car fire at the Village Crean called out the Department on Feb. 29, 1976 at 9:29 a.m. One engine, Car 261, and 22 men responded. Two false alarms occurred during a rainstorm on Feb. 29, 1976. One at 5:15 p.m. at 108 Iroquois Road, where one engine and 23 men responded; an alarm at 9:05 p.m. at 607 Hanshaw Road, where one engine and 19 men responded. Telephone repair was noti- fied; they investigated and reported a wet cable causing a short which was responsl- ble for the alarm. Tele:,;one Repair advised the cable has been repaired$ The Fire Council requests premisslon to order 7 fire turnout coats at a cost of approximately $450.00. We have the necessary funds in the budget. Delivery Is about 6 months.
