In January, the Department responded to 10 fire calls and 3 Incidents as follows:
On January 6, 1976, at 12:48 a.m., the Department responded to 318 Highland Road
where a heat detector near an overheated furnace set off the building fire alarm.
Twelve men and three pi -ces of apparatus responded.
A false alarm at Building C at BOCES called out the Department on Jan. 10, at 11:15
p.m.
At 8:56 a.m., January 12, a mutual aid request brought 12 men and one engine to the
Airport. A small plane was unable to land as the landing gear was frozen and could
not be lowered. The pilot eventually freed the gear and landed safely.
Another false alarm at Building C at BOCES tailed out the Department on January 16,
at 11:17 p.m. Fourteen men and three pieces of apparatus responded.
A mutual aid request from Lansing called out the Department to the Jamesway Dept.
Store on January 19, 1976, at 1:02 p.m. A water surge set off the building's fire
alarm. Eight men and ono engine responded.
On January 20, the Flexalarm at the Fire Station set off the fire horn. The alarm
system failed to show any trouble or alarm location. The telephone repair service
was notified and investigated. They later reported a malfunction in one of their
cables because of the rain storm.
A smoke odor in the branch of the First National Bank at the Corners was responsible
• for an alarm on January 23, at 3:23 p.m. One engine and 7 men went to the scene.
At 5:01 p.m., on January 23, eight men and one engine responded to Bldg. C at BOCES
for a false a!arm. Officials at the school have now reported a malfunctioning de-
tector in their system has been located and replaced.
On January 27, at 2:17 a.m., the Department responded at 607 Hanshaw Road on a false
alarm. Twelve men and two pieces of apparatus responded. The telephone company
Investigated and reported a malfunction in one of the cables caused by the rain
storm that was then in progress.
A mutual aid request from Lansing sent out the Department to the Jamesway Department
Store on a false alarm by a water surge. Two engines and 8 men went to the scene.
The Department's incidents were as follows:
On January 23, at 2:30 a.m., a mutual aid call to the Triphammer Shopping Center
A8P because of a water pipe breaking and flooding the store. Cayuga Heights fur-
nished some equipment to assist in clearing the water.
On January 27, at 9:43 a fioor'ed be=oment at 306 Muriel Street was responsible
for a call. One engine and 2 men assisted.
A flooded basement at 1107 Triphammer Road was responsible for a call on January 29,
at 5:15 p.m. Five men and one truck assisted.
• FIRE INSPECTOR'S REPORT - January 1976
During the month, the Multiple Residence at 416 Highland and two dwellings have been
inspected.
One dwelling problem related to the installation of a pot bellied stove, the other
to emergency evacuation problems relating to second floor escape routes.
