HomeMy WebLinkAboutReport of the Fire Chief for Dec 1975REPORT OF FIRE CHIEF December 1975 There were four general alarms and two incident calls in December 1975• On December 9, 1975, at 6:00 p.m., the Department was called to the Carriage House apartments where a short in a furnace burned wires and caused a small amount of flame and smoke. Three pieces of equipment and 18 men responded. At 7:45 P.M. on December 17, 1975, the Department responded to 501 The Parkway where the house had filled with smoke after the home owner started a fire in the fire place and neglected to open the chimney draft. The home owner knew the problem when he called in and only one piece of equipment responded with two men who used an exhaust fan to clear the house of smoke. An alarm malfunction at 435 Wyckoff called out the department at 6:38 p.m. on December 20th. Two pieces of equipment and 22 men responded. On December 22nd at 2:26 p.m., the Department was called to 105 West Upland where it was found a motor in the gas furnace caused a strong smoke odor in the house. Three pieces of equipment and 15 men responded. Incident calls were: one gasoline flush at Pleasant Grove Road and Hanshaw Road • and one gasoline odor in a home at 308 Rost Street. In December, Assistant Chief Robert Bensin resigned from the Department. The Fire Council met and decided not to fill this position temporarily as the annual elec- tion of officers will occur in March, REPORT OF FIRE INSPECTOR During the month of December, inspections were made of the Village Green, Community Corners, and the Village Hall buildings. While there were a few recommendations relating to housekeeping, loose electrical junction boxes, and an occasional exit light nut operating properly, the overall condition of these properties relating to fire prevention was excellent. At the request of Mr. Peter Sarkus, an inspection was also made of the two dwelling units beii;g constructed in the basement of 186 Pleasant Grove Road. At that time, it appeared as if they were in compliance with the applicable provisions of the New York State Construction Code. •
