McEWEN I 838 HANSHAW ROAD - ITHACA, NEW YORK 14850 - TELEPHONE 807. 257 -1011 CIIIEF OF POLICE February 24, 1976 Honorable Frederick G. Marcham, Mayor Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights I respectfully submit the report of the activities of the Cayuga Heights Police Department for the Year 1975. During the year, crime continued to rise throughout the state and county, while it decreased slightly in the Village. There was an increase of five felonies and a decrease of forty -six misdemeanors reported in the Village. There were over 1,000 burglaries and over 3,000 larcenies reported to police agencies in Tompkins County during 1975, while only 12 burglaries and 68 larcenies were reported and investigated by the Cayuga Heights Police Department. Citizen concern and cooperation is important if we are to continue to enjoy a low crime rate in the Village. Neighbors who volunteer to notify • the police of suspicious persons around vacant homes and business places play a big part in crime prevention. The number of motor vehicle accidents in the Village remained low again this year as it has for many years. We believe that our constant and even traffic enforcement program in conjunction with a firm and fair Village Justice is responsible for this. Few communities enjoy such a low accident record as we have. The cooperation and support received by the police department from the Mayor, Board of Trustees, Village Clerk, Village Treasurer, Village Engineer & Zoning Officer, Village Attorney, Village Justice, Department of Public Works and Fire Department was excellent during the year. This cooperation and support has made the operation of Village Government a team effort which we believe provides the residents with the best possible service at the lowest possible cost. We pledge that we will continue to provide the Village with the best possible police protection in the years ahead. Respectfully, Hal -Tian R „ %y. /# 2. Chief of Police • HRM:bp n L COMPLAINTS HANDLED MISDEMEANORS: Criminal Mischief ..... ............................... 1973 1974 1975 FELONIES: 45 64 56 Burglary .............. ............................... 10 17 12 Grand Larceny ......... ............................... 0 5 12 Grand Larceny -Motor Vehicle ..... 0 ............ 0....... 0 2 5 Criminal Possession Stolen Property .................. 0 2 2 Criminal Possession of Forged Instrument ............. 1 0 1 Attempt to Commit a Crime ............................ 1 1 0 Arson ................. ..................0........0... 2 0 0 Criminally Selling Dangerous Drugs ................... 1 0 0 Homicide .............. .........010................0.. 1 0 0 Total Felony Complaints 16 3 32 MISDEMEANORS: Criminal Mischief ..... ............................... 66 71 62 Petit Larceny ................... 0.................... 45 64 56 Bad Check .................
