Georges Fire Chief RE: Monthly report of the Fire Chief for October 1975 There were 8 fire calls and 4 incident calls for the month of October 1975. On October 4, 1975s at 5 :42 p.m., the department was called to Pleasant Grove Apart- ments. Food, left unattended on a stove, burned and filled the apartment with smoke. Engines 201, 203, Truck 234, and Car 261 responded with 15 men. On October 7, 1975, at 8:26 p.m., there was a fire call to 101 Klinewoods Road where a short circuit in a kitchen stave filled the house with smoke. Engine 203, 201, and Car 261 responded with 16 men. A kitchen fire called the department to Hasbrouck Apartments on October 15, 1975, at 6:35 p.m. The resident forgot a plastic cake container was in the oven when she turned the oven on. The plastic container burned and melted, filling the apartment with smoke. Four pieces of apparatus and 20 men responded. On October 28, 1975, at 10:26 p.m., the department was called to Bldg. C at BOCES • where a kiln was defective, gave off smoke, filled the room, and set off a smoke detector. Three pieces of apparatus and 11 men responded. A dryer fire called out the department on October 30, 1975, at 10:30 p.m., at 509 Warren Road. The dryer vent was filled with lint, caught fire, and filled the house with smoke. Three pieces of apparatus responded with 15 men. On October 31, 19752 at 8:03 p.m., the department was called to the 200 block of Remington Road where leaves in a woods were burning over about a 30 -foot area. Engine 201, Car 261, and 9 men responded. The department was called to 306 Highland Road where a pile of tree limbs located between the curb and sidewalk were burning. Engine 201, Car 261, and 9 men responded. Incident calls were: one gasoline flush and three for a dangerous condition. MONTHLY FIRE INSPECTION REPORT by Eugene J. Djnek. Inspections were conducted at Northeast Grade School and revisits mane at DeWitt Junior High School, Pleasant Grove Building renovation, and Hurlburt House. Conditions at most locations were excellent. Two apartments are being constructed in the basement of the office building at Pleasant Grove Road. Since the building does not come within Multiple Residenhe Law jurisdiction, we cannot effect changes as they may concern life safety. Under MRL, we might prevent occupancy in the • basement unless certain changes were made; yet, because the Village has not adopted the State of New York Construction Code, we cannot recommend construction changes even though such changes would be required by MRL. At this point in time, it appears as if the problem relates to window area in habitable spaces and definition of cellar, basement, and curb line, all of which are, at present, beyond Village authority. VILIAG'd OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS • REPORT OF THE ENGINEER - November 1975 LEAF COLLECTION With the use of two trucks with leaf suction devices, we have been able to keep up with the removal of leaves left out by the residents of the Village for collection. These leaves are stockpiled for mulch at the Village Storeyard, except for a few truck loads which are left on private property at the request of the owner for their use as a mulch pile. Where this is done, care is taken to make sure that the pile is out of sight and will not cause a problem for neighbors. TRIMMER SIDEaALK The installation of curbing on Triphammer Road between Iroquois and White Park Road has been completed in preparation for the installation of the sidewalk in this same area. It is estimated that the sidewalk will be poured before the Board's November meeting. The installation of the curb was necessary to delineate the automobile travel area from the sidewalk area. BUILDING MAIMENANCE To facilitate repair work on police car radios in an area near the Police Head- quarters and to provide electric power for exterior Christmas lights, an exterior electric outlet was installed at the Village Hall. To provide better heat control • on the upper floor of the Village Hall, which has been very cold at times, an additional thermostat - control was installed in the Village Clerk's office. At the request of the Fire Chief, the roof of the original truck bay area of the Fire Station was inspected and temporary repairs of this roof will be made as soon as the weather permits. STREETS Road guard posts at the upper end and chain and posts at the lower end of Remington Road were put in place to restrict traffic on this road. A week after they were in place, a post at both the upper and lower barricades was removed by persons un- known. Repair work will be carried out as soon as possible. A stream culvert, headwall, and extension of the culvert pipe flowing under the south end of North Triphammer Road has beer-,ompleted. This makes three headwalls on North Triphammer Road whicr support the sidewalk that have been repaired this year. SEr.IAGE TRFATIC -M PLANP Dr. Dobbins, senior partner of Teetor - Dobbins, made an inspection of the plant on October 31st. A number of op::e..:ional problems that have come up while putting the plant into full operation were discussed with the sewer plant operator, Mr. Gary Gleason. A sudsing problem at the air relieving station of the outfall pipe was solved by our sewer plant operator with the purchase of some 800 feet of plastic hose. His solution requires no further operational costs, because the water used to "knock dorm" the suds is effluent water. • TREES Trees for p7nnt:lug in the Tillage right of way on Tripharcriter Road and Renshaw Road have been purchased and installation arranged for. Questions were raised on the ability 6T the trees to survive if planted in this area. The Engineer.han consul- ENGINEER'S REPORT - November 1975 (cont'd) page 2 TREES (cont'd) ted with the Village Forester on this problem, and a decision to proceed with the planting was reached. TRAFFIC STUDY A preliminary traffic study of the intersection of Triphammer Road and Iianshaw Road has been undertaken by a graduate engineering student. His report will be available at the Village Board meeting. Indications are that there is considerable increase in traffic since the last traffic report of this area made in 1967. Additional traffic survey is currently in process by a traffic counting device, presently on N. Triphammer Road. This will be moved to other roads that lead into the intersection as time permits. REPORT OF THE ZONING OFFICER - November 1975 One zoning permit was issued for the construction of a new, small building at an existing residence for an estimated cost of $13,500. A request for a zoning permit on Pleasant Grove Road was requested by Lagrand Cliase. This request was returned to Mr. Chase, as all the information needed was not provided. 0 •
