on a false alarm. Engines 203, 201, Car 261 responded with 9 men.
On August 6, 1975, during a rain storm, three false alarms were received. The
first was at 7 :46 a.m. at Cayuga Heights School. Engines 203, 201, and 13 men
responded. The second ca4 was at 10:18 a.m., and was again at Cayuga Heights
School. Engine 203, Car 261 and 9 men responded. A third alarm called the Dept.
to 108 Iroquois Road at 12:03 p.m. Engines 203, 201 and 13 men responded.
On August 12, 1975, at 1 :12 p.m., a false alarm occurred at 607 Hanshaw Road.
Police Patrolman Day was near the residence when the call came in and responded
and determined the call was a false alarm before the equipment responded. Thirtce:
men reported for duty on this call.
On August 13, 1975, Engine 203, Car 261, and 3 men answered a mutual aid call to
the Varna Fire Station to stand by while the Varna equipment was committed to a
practice drill.
An electric dryer fire was responible for a fire call to 319 Highland Road on
August 20, 1975, at 11:03 p.m. Engines 203, 201, Truck 234, and Car 261 responded
with 16 men.
S One incident occurred on August 9, 1975, at 10:10 p.m. A call was received to
investigate a smoke odor at 509 Wyckoff Road. A water bed heater overheated and
scorched a hardwood floor.
On each of the false alarms, the Telephone Repair Service was notified as the
interior alarms in each alarm was not activated, indicating the alarms were caused
in the telephone lines. Repair Service investigated and reported new lines were
installed at the school, and they did not believe there would be further trouble.
Several rain storms have occurred since, and no further alarms have been received.
The Fire Council recommends and requests permission to purchase a Twinsonic bar
and light for cab top of Car 261. The present bar on Car 261 is deteriorating,
and we wish to use the light on Car 261 on the new top for Engine 201. The total
cost, including a 15 percent discount, is $320.00.
Our present Flexalarm fire alarm system sounds the horn on the fire station but
does not alert the monitors when an alarm comes in. If no firemen are in the
station or near enough to hear the horns, there is a long delay in responding.
We have researched a method to overcome this problem, and the Fire Council is
recommending and requesting permission to rent a leased telephone line from our
station to Fire Headquarters to County Fire Control. With this line, the County
Dispatcher would be alerted when an alarm comes in, and he could immediately alert
the Cayuga Heights monitors and save considerable delay in responding. The cost
would be $19.78 per month.
