Marcham, Mayor Mumbers of the Board of-,Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights SUBjMT: Report of the Police Chief for May 1975 The Police Department handled 98 complaints and investigated 6 motor vehicle accidents. There were 123 traffic tickets and 11 parking tickets issued during the month. In my report for the month of April, I mentioned we had handled 77 complaints and this was exceptionally high. The 98 complaints handled this month has increased our workload even further and I must commend the officers and the police clerk for thair efforts in coping with the increase. During May, there were three felony crn.Vlaints, 2 for grand larceny and 1 for criminal possession of stolen property. Those were 34 misdemeanor complaints. During the month, $2,820.31 worth of property watts reported lost or stolen in the Village. We recovered $5,916.96 in property which was reported lost or stolen in the Village during May and past months, and $1,302.86 in property reported lost or stolen outside of the Village, for a total of recovered property of $7,219.82. As I mentioned at the April Village Board meeting, I would like permission to have one or two persons available for use as a school guard when our regular guard cannot work. This would be done only when our regular guard would not be available for a con'plete school day. Our present rate of compensation for the school guard is $7.50 per day and wren he would not be present we would deduct this from his pay and pay it inetead to the replacement. From May 12th through May 23rd. Sergeant Cooper attended the FBI Police Firearms Instructors School. at Coma Cmlth, Pec'.caki.l7., N.Y. This was the second part of the certificat-ioa program And L.e atbnzd - =d the FBI Advanced Firearms School at Camp Smith ]n..st year. This is eacciiik l to the Village inasmuch as it provides us with a certified instructor who regul=ly qualifies the police officers in the use of firearms and protects the Village against liability should the officers be required to ure a firearm. We are ready to sell the old poli.rs car and request permission for the Treasurer and I to sell it to the highest bidder with a starting minimum bid of $1800. If we cannot get bids with this minimum. I farther request that the Treasurer and I be given permission to make the minis xn whatever may be acceptable to obtaining bids. The officers worked 5 hours overtime during the month of May. Respectfully submitted, Harlin R. M Ewe Chief of Police HRM:bp
