HomeMy WebLinkAboutReport of the Police Chief for Feb 1975POLICE DMILI'I2aDW VILLAGE OF WIUCA I YIGHIS TO: Hon. Frederick G. YArcbem, Mayor DATE: March 17, 1975 Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights SUBJECT: Report of the Police Chief for February 1975 The Police Department handled 45 complaints and investigated 9 motor vehicle accidents. There were 65 traffic tickets and 15 parking tickets issued during the month. There were two felony complaints during the month. One concerned the burglary of an apartment in an apartment complex and the other the larceny of a motor vehicle. The stolen motor vehicle was recovered within fifteen minutes of the report, but the person(s) responsible have not yet been apprehended. There were 17 misdemeanor complaints. A new radio maintenance agreement is necessary now that we are responsible for the newly purchased equipment in connection with the county system. I have discussed this matter with the Public Safety Committee and it is our recommendation that the agreement be completed for a two year period commencing April 1, 1975. Provisions have been made in the proposed 1975 -76 budget for this agreement, however it will mean an additional cost in the present budget for the months of April and May of $45.20. I therefore request that you act upon the following resolution: VOTED to authorize the to sign an agreement with Motorola, Inc. Sconcerning a radio maintenance agreement for the period April 1, 1975 through March 31, 1977, in the amount of $547.20 for the first year, billed monthly, and $684.00 for the second year, also billed monthly. The Public Safety Committee met with the Police Chief on March 13, 1975 to review the proposed police budget for 1975 -1976 again. This resulted in further reductions in the budget in an attempt to keep the tax rate down. As a result of that meeting, it was decided to only provide for the purchase of one new patrol car during the next year. A different and smaller type of police car will be experimented with in an attempt to gain more fuel economy and meet our needs better. Such a vehicle is not available on state contract and upon recommendation of the Police Chief and the Public Safety Committee, I would request your action upon the following resolution which will provide a bid price at the April 7, 1975 meeting of the board to act upon: VOTED to authorize the Village Clerk to advertise for bids for one police car with specifications to be provided by the Police Chief as approved by the Public Safety Committee. A further investigation is being made concerning the catalytic converter for such car and the related use of non - leaded gasoline. There is an indication that the Federal Government may ease the regulations concerning the use of these shortly and it may not be necessary to purchase an additional gasoline tank for non- leaded gasoline. The full -time officers worked a total of 19 hours overtime during the month. Respectfully submitted, Harlin R: McEven Chief of Police • •• ..
