NThI WATER LINES.
Mr. Masciarelli, Contractor for the installation of transmission mains for the
Southern Cayuga Lake Intermunicipal Water Supply Project wishes the Village of Cayuga
Heights to waive the deposit of $100 required for the open cutting of roads in the
Village. Because Cdr. Masciarelli has submitted a preformance bond in connection
with his contract and because the Village does not require either the NYSE &G or the
NY Telephone Co. to deposit $100 for road opening permits, it is the recommendation
of the Village Engineer that this $100 deposit be waived.
After discussion with the firm of Macciarelli Construction Co. and the Clerk of the
Works., fir. Ed LaVigne, of this project; it has been determined that the back fill
in open cut road crossings of paved areas . be completely filled with crusher
run limestone. There are only two such crossings required in the Village, one on
North Triphammer near Hanshav Road and the other is on Pleasant Grove Road.,This
type of crusher run has been used by the Village in backfilling under paved roads
the length of Fast Upland Road, Cayuga Park Road and a section on Hanshaw Road,
1Qinewoods.Road and many others. Because of the good results obtained by this
type of back fill, we have adopted this as the required procedure for any of the
Village openings of paved road areas and any other persons opening our roads. It is
the recommendation of the Village Engineer and Bob Tyrrell, Public Works Superin-
tendent that this standard be maintained. Mr. LaVigne said during our discussion on
March 14th that this type of back fill with crusher run to the full depth of the cut
was found to give good results and was used in the Town of Lansing.
