At the request of the Board, Cornell University was notified by the Zoning Officer that if no progress is made on the construction of the four remaining tennis courts for which a zoning permit was issued to the University, that permit for six unlighted tennis courts will become void. If the University wishes to con- struct these tennis courts in the future, a new zoning permit must be applied for by the University. REPORT.OF THE ENGINEER - February 1975 , 10.iD13#Y.1 As weather permits and as potholes appear in the roads in the Village, the Village work force acts promptly to fill them with a winter asphalt mix which will keep the holes filled and the roads safe and prevent further deterioration until permanent patching can be done in the Spring. There are relatively few of these potholes in the Village because, in general, the roads in the Village are in good condition. The Village work force continues to work on Bolton Point Road when requested by the Town of Ithaca Engineer. A tabulation of the total time of men and machines • contributed by the Village toward the construction of the Bolton Point Road and water intake site will be available at the Board meeting. SNOW REMOVAL Efforts have been made by the work force to reduce the use of salt but still maintain safe roads. Over twenty tons of sand have been purchased to'mix'viith salt for application to reads on hills, curves, and intersections during icey weather. This has been effective as well as cost saving. The large diesel - powered Ford truck ordered for delivery in early Fall so that it would be available for snow plowing has not yet been delivered, and there seems little hope that we will receive it for this year's snow removal operations. Through the Board's purchase of a substitute truck that became available and good maintenance work by our work force on the GMC truck that the Village was to have turned in on the ordered truck, equipment has been available and good snow removal operations have been in force. • REPORT OF THE ENGINEER - February 1975 0 REFUSE COLLECTION • page 2 The Village program for the use of large containers for commercial, fraternity, and apartment house trash collection has come to a standstill. It is the recom- mendation of the Engineer that the program be put into force by requiring those that have a large amount of trash for collection to use this large type container that can be automatically dumped into the back of our packer. The cost of the containers is about $1000. They could be purchased by the Village and rented to users to amortize the cost or a directive from the Trustees could be made requir- ing users to purchase their own containers if they wished to take advantage of the Village trash removal service. The cost for adapting the Village packer to automatically load these containers or hoppers would be about $1500, and this amount is being planned for in the coming budget. Because of the unsightlyness in front of some fraternities and at the back of some commercial establishments, it is the recommendation of the Engineer that the proper steps be taken by the Board to proceed with a mandatory plan for the use of these trash collection containers. :gwriDT:Tj0sl k0a*c' ma Through the help of the manager of Morse Chain and our consulting engineers, Teetor - Dobbins, our contractors, Stewart and Bennett, were finally able to get a firm commitment from the Jeffrey Chain Mfgs. to deliver the needed link chain by March 10, 1975. This is.the one remaining piece of equipment necessary for the contractor to finish the construction of the alterations and additions to the sewage treatment plant.
