VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS
REPORT OF THE ENGINEER
DECEMBER 1973
• VILLAGE PROPERTY ON FOREST DRIVE
The J. D. Gallagher Co. was hired to make an appraisal of this property in
anticipation of the Village receiving bids for its sale. This report is on file
with the Village Clerk for the Trustee's inspection if they so desire. The
valuation report of the J. D. Gallagher Co. has not been made public but can be
if the Trustees feel it is the proper procedure. Upon inspection of the property
with Mr. Agard of the J. D. Gallagher Co. it was noted that there were a number
of dead elm trees in the back part of the property that had not been removed.
There were also a number of very large dead trees .lying on the property that
would have to be removed if the property were to be used for a building lot.
In an effort to make the lot more saleable and to follow through with our own
Dutch Elm Disease Control Program the Public Works Crew was directed to remove
all dead trees standing or lying on the ground. This took considerable machine
and manpower.
LEAVES AND ELM WOOD
An excellent job has been maintained in keeping up with the removal of leaves
and elm wood put out by the roadside. The job is not yet complete and the service
of leaf removal will continue until December 15.
SEWER LINES
Construction and repair work on sewer lines has been postponed during the
• fall to allow the crew to do leaf and elm wood removal. During the Christmas
vacation when school is not in session at the Cayuga Heights School, the replacement
of a leaking sewer line running across the school property is scheduled. Also, as
soon as time permits a second section of the sewer line on Berkshire Road will be
replaced. In connection with the sewer line replacement was proposed the purchase
of a 4" pump reported at the last meeting. At the request of the Board prices on
similar pumps have been secured from other suppliers. They are as follows:
Valley Fixit Shop, Ithaca - Homelite 4" trash pump with suction hose and 250' of
discharge hose - $1,335.00
Self- Central Scaffolding, Vestal - another brand of 4" trash pump with same hoses -
$3,615
Seneca Supply, Ithaca - Homolite 4" trash pump with suction hose and 250' of
discharge hose - $1,454.00
SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT
Additional information has been pulled together and submitted to Mr. Petrucelli
of the Environmental Conservation Office in Syracuse to further process our requests
for grant in aid in the sewer plant operation. The operation of our existing
treatment plant by Mr. Gary Gleason under contract has received praise from the
State, our Consulting Engineers, and our contractor, Stewart and Bennett. In
addition to his present operation, Mr. Gleason has been helpful in securing
. information out of the plant files pertaining to the operation 'during the last year
as a help in our application for grant in aid.

At the request of Mr. Shepherd who owns property fronting on lower Remington
Road, a telephone pole blocking entrance to this road was removed. He has been
instructed to notify us as soon as the access he required is not necessary for
another period and we will replace the barricade. This will keep unwanted traffic
and nuisance from traveling this road and as a result it will not have to be
patroled by the Police.
