POLICE DEPARTMENT
VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS
TO: Hon. Frederick G. Marcham, Mayor
Members of the Board of Trustees
Village of Cayuga Heights
SUBJECT: Activities of the Police Department for October 1973
The Police Department handled 53 complaints and investigated 12 motor
vehicle accidents. There were 56 traffic tickets and 27 parking tickets
issued during the month.
There were two felonies reported during the month, one for burglary which
was determined to be unfounded and one case of arson which was cleared
43y the apprehension of two juveniles. There were 21 misdemeanor offenses
reported.
Numerous serious problems face the Police Department currently. Among
them are a man power shortage and need for updating certain budget items
due to unexpected expenses. There is a need for having a closer working
relationship with the Board of Trustees. This seemed to work quite well
with the former public safety committee which we have not had since June.
I respectively request that such a committee again be activated so that
I may discuss our current problems with them. It is not possible or
practical to discuss these matters in depth at the monthly Village Board
meetings.
Halloween this year was the best I can remember in the past 10 years
and brought the least number of vandalism complaints. Six teen -age
boys assisted with our patrols and helped in establishing a rapport with
the youth on the streets.
The part -time officers worked a total of 164 hours during the month and
in addition to this, extra help was hired for a total of 27 hours to assist
with the Mitchell investigation.
