HomeMy WebLinkAboutFire Department Report for May 1973CAYUGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPART14M REPORT FOR HAY 1973 The department responded to 9 incidents or fires during the month; they were: 2 Medical Emergency Calls (Oxygen) 2 Mutual Aid (Varna & Lansing) 3 Accidental Alarm 1 Automobile 1 Smoke Scare There was no reportable loss within our district, but the loss on the mutual aid call to Varna on Sapsuckerwoods Road will exceed $20,000. Last word on delivery of the new ladder truck is that it will be delayed for several months since the Ford chassis still has not been delivered to the manufacturer. The department, thanks to the hard work of Chief MeM -ren, Fireman Olmstead and others, has recently completed revision of the road and hydrant map of the fire protection district. Time and growth since the original drawing in 1966 necessitated many changes and many hours of work on the part of everyone involved. Total cost for engineering work by Millers and printing of 500 maps -visa slightly under $300 which was paid for out of the 1972 -73 Other Expense appropriation. A copy of the map will be posted in the Village Meeting Room and more are available if the members of the Board or other Village officials need them. Permission is requested to purchase a replacement radio for the Chief's personal car. The present radio was purchased used several years ago and despite two recent repairs is again out of order. The CESCo repairman feels that to spend any more money repairing the old unit is useless. He feels that the set has reached the point of no return and should be replaced. The replacement unit would be a used (one year old) Motorola solid state unit which originally sold for just under $600 and can be purchased for $300. The CESCo repairman has checked the unit and says it is in excellent condition and should give many years of satisfactory service. Funds to come from the Equipment appropri- ation for '73 -74. Ned G. Boice Fire Chief
