POLICE DEPARTMENT
VILIAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS
TO: Hon. Frederick G. Marcham, Mayor
Members of the Board of Trustees
Village of Cayuga Heights
SUBJECT: Activities of the Police Department for January 1973
The Police Department handled 43 complaints afid investigated 7 motor
vehicle accidents. There were 57 traffic tickets and 14 parking tickets
issued during the month.
There was one felony investigation concerning criminal possession of a
forged instrument. There were thirteen misdemeanor complaints, three
for petit larceny, five for criminal mischief, and five for aggravated
harassment.
At the September 18, 1972 Village Board meeting, Resolution #2011
authorized the Police Chief t,o i :iitiate on a 120 day trial basis
the following changes in traffic control signs: Change the Yield
Signs at Wyckoff and Kline Road to Stop Signs; change the Stop Sign
at The Parkway and Highgate Road to a Yield Sign. A public hearing
should be scheduled so that the appropriate changes can be made to
the Traffic Ordinance to cover these signs on a permanent basis.
I recommend this, inasmuch as the trial period has shown this to be
an improvement in traffic flow and safety.
The radar which was authorized for a trial lease period has been working
well and is a tremendous improvement on the old unit. The old unit
quit working completely on January 25th and I do not intend to repair
it unless something unforeseen happens in the near future. If the new
unit continues to be satisfactory during the next month, I will recommend
we purchase it.
The street lighting changes approved by the Village Board on October 16,
1972, have been completed by the N.Y. State Electric & Gas Corp, and
the improvement in these areas is excellent.
The part -time officers worked 111 hours and the full -time officers
worked 6 hours overtime during January.
