CAYUGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT
REPORT FOR NOVEMBER 1972
The department responded to 7 alarms of fire and 5 incidents during
the month. Four of the alarms were accidental caused by telephone
repairmen, radio repairmen, alarm repairmen and in the fourth instance
a farm tractor being operated directly under an ionization detector in
the Farm Shop at BOCES. The other alarms were: a smoke scare at
220 Triphammer Road (burned out light ballast), vehicle at 128 Salem
Drive, smoke in Pleasant Grove Apartments Laundry (burned out washer
motor). The end result was no reportable fire loss for the month. The
incidents were all routine such as flooding, motor vehicle accidents,
and furnace problems.
Fire inspections made during the month were:
Cayuga Heights School
BOCES (5 buildings)
DeWitt Jr. High
Northeast School
220 Triphammer Rd.
207 Kelvin Place
- conditions good, much improved since
1971.
- still storage problems (lack of space).
- conditions good.
- conditions excellent.
- inspect incinerator and stack.
- final - now in compliance with NYSMRL.
The department was experiencing a severe problem of what appeared
to be harrassment calls on the emergency phone. This problem has been
relieved through the efforts of Police Chief McEwen and the excellent
cooperation received from The New York Telephone Company. I would like
to compliment Chief McEwen on his handling of this matter.
