HomeMy WebLinkAboutEngineer's Report Dec 1972VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS REPORT OF THE ENGINEER DECEMBER 1972 STREETS ® The motor in the truck chassis under the Village salt spreader gave out last week. The salt spreader has been switched to the truck chassis from the tank truck. The tank truck will not be needed for the transportation of liquid sludge as sludge is dried and removed from the plant by dump truck. In the spring the tank body can be replaced on this chassis. Contractor help was called in to complete the east headwall of the North Sunset culvert job. The wall was poured on December 5th and after two weeks curing the backfill can be completed. The road is scheduled to be opened for traffic by Christmas. The long range weather forecast for the Northeast is forecolder than usual and at least as much precipitation as normal so it looks like we will have a fill schedule of snow removal work for the duration of the winter. SEWER LINES The wettest November in recent history for upstate New York has shown up with high flows at the Sewage Treatment Plant. For this reason and after consulting with Mr. Steve Herman of the County Health Department, it was deemed advisable to postpone our approval of connection of a six car can-rash proposed by Mr. Knapp for installation in the Lansing Shopping Plaza area. Lansing has been working through their contractor on a number of sewer line breaks that could be a source of infil- tration. • RETIREMENT Mr. Ralph Garvin is retiring from the Village after 18 years of service. His last day of work will be December 29th. It is suggested that the Village Board authorize the Mayor to express their thanks to Mr. Garvin for his many years of good service. NEW SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT At the request of the Mayor the Engineer attended a meeting called by the Conference of Mayors on Saturday, December 9, 1972 in Syracuse to hear discussion by represenhatives of the Farm and Home Administration and the HUD Agency about ritinnoing major umni.ipr%l, cnpita.l investments in sewer facilities, water facilities, etc. There has been much interest in bidding on the plans and specifications for the new Treatment Plant. Bid opening is scheduled for December 21st. REFUSE COLLECTION The low bidder to provide the new Garwood 20 cubic yard packer body has not been able to deliver. We have received the explanation that the factory that produces Garwood body has been moved and the Village of Cayuga Heights is to receive the first packer produced. We now expect delivery in January. • Continued wet weather and snow has hindered the last bit of leaf collection but it is expected that the leaf collection will be finished before the next Board meeting.
