CAYUGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT
REPORT FOR OCTOPM, 1972
The department responded to three alarms during the month. Two of the
alarms were accidental alarms and the other resulted in a small loss of $267
as a result of a chimney fire on Christopher Circle. The department also
responded to six incidents during the month, these included a trapped animal,
power failure, flames, investigation of a fire at Northeast School, and a
mutual aid request for Car I to assist in a search for a lost child on
Connecticut Hill. Car I was requested by the County Fire Coordinator because
it was the only 4-wheel drive vehicle in the county with radio, public address
system and emergency equipment.
Fire inspection activity included reinspections of parts of the Corners
Complex, and working with owners to correct hazards at 207 Kelvin Place
and 306 Highland Road.
Fire prevention activity included two first grades from Cayuga Heights
School touring the fire station and a short lecture and tour given to a group
of Girl Scouts.
Several of the firemen attended the three schools sponsored by the
New York State Division of Fire Safety. These included a 36 hour course in
Essentials of Firemanship, Pump Operation, and Arson Detection.
• The usual Halloween standby was held with about 10 volunteers manning
the fire station that eve, the only activity being the investigation of the
fire at Northeast School.
Assistant Chiefs Lewis and Collins made a trip to the Pierce Manufacturing
Co. in Appleton, Wisconsin to gather first hand information on a small ladder
truck and aerial unit they manufacutre. The Pierce Co. underwrote the expenses
of the trip.
