TREE REMOVAL There are a few trees that as yet have not been removed under the contract let to General Arborists. There are also a few large elm trees on the Village right of way that were marked after the bid was let. These will be removed this Fall in a cooperative effort between General Arborists and our Village work force. Although there is no danger from the spreading of the Dutch Elm Disease until early Spring all efforts will be made to have the contractor complete the removal of trees on the Village right of way as soon as possible as we do receive calls from property owners asking why Village trees have not as yet been removed. In the future it would save money on a contractor's bid and also save questions as to why Village trees are not removed "on time" if more lead time and the marking of trees to be removed could be received from the Village forester. Coordinating efforts will be made with him. FLOOD DAMAGE The Engineer attended meetings pertaining to flood damage of June 23rd. Emphasis was made that the flood damage work must be started before December 23, 1972 and that accurate records must be kept of time and materials spent on flood damage work for the Federal Government auditors. Flood damage work on Simsbury Drive and on Winthrop Drive has been completed. Flood damage work at the Village Sewage Treatment Plant is in process. Transplanting of some damaged shrubs and final grading at the plant will be completed this Fall. Flood damage repair work of the culvert under North Sunset Drive is scheduled to start on October 10th. • SEWER LINES A requirement has been put into effect that each new sewer line must be tested with an air pressure system before it will be allowed to be attached to the Village sewer system. With our new sewer line air tester a leak was found in a new line from Lansing North Apartments after the old water type test had declared the line tight. This confirms the decision to require air testing of all new lines. Also seventy feet of badly leaking sewer line that already is attached to the Village system was found with our air testing device. Lansing was notified and repairs will be made. SEWER PLANT A meeting was held with the Mayor and Mr. Dave Petrucelli of New York State Environmental Control. Requests for additional information on the efforts made on infiltration control and operation of the plant were made to substantiate our request for operating and maintenance assistance funds from the State. A request has been received to build a 6 -bay car wash in Lansing Sewer District No. 1. The wastewater from this car wash to flow through the lines from the Lansing District No. 1 to the Village plant for treatment. Old property lines of the condemned Liberman property at the new plant site were laid out for the commissioners and lawyers to inspect on the site in an effort to help them come to a decision on the value of the property which is in litigation. • This staking out of the property clearly indicated to the commissioners the narrowness of the strip of land which was necessary to take from Mr. Liberman. Engineer's Report Page 2 • ROADS Only a small amount of Fall road patching was required this year. It has been completed. Road ditching has been completed in a number of places in the Village. The greatest problem on Klinewoods Road has been finished on the north side. A request of a property owner on the corner of Klinewoods and Hanshaw for the installation of a 20 inch pipe to carry storm water underground the .length of the frontage of her property on Klinewoods Road have been received. It has been suggested to her that if she will pay the cost for the pipe the Village will install it. This will be of mutual benefit to the Village and the property owner. A good arrangement has been reached by our Public Works foreman with the Town of Dryden for the use of their Hopto self propelling ditch machine. Road opening permits have been issued to the New York State Electric and Gas Company for the construction of a new gas main in the Cayuga Heights Road right of way between the Village -City line on the south and Devon Road on the north. Efforts were made in laying out the whole location of the lines so that a minimum of digging through the paved roadway will be required. J. B. Rogers Village Engineer O
