Marcham, Mayor Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Subject: Activities of the Police Department for September 1972 The Police Department handled 54 complaints and investigated 6 motor vehicle accidents. There were 104 traffic tickets and 24 parking tickets issued during the month. House burglaries are on the increase in the area adjacent to the Village and on September 22nd a house on Highlant: Road was entered while the owners were out for the evening. We have been coordinating our investigative efforts with the State Police and Sheriff's Department to solve these crimes. The store security personnel for the Super Duper Market at the Corners Community Center turned over five shoplifters during the month. It might interest you to knort the sex and ages of the subjects which included 3 females, age 61, 50, and 37 and two males age 34 and 19. A male subject age 18 was also arrested for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in connection with a stolen bicycle. These matters are presently pending in Village Court. During September, several complaints were received concerning attempted assaults and public lewdness which occurred in the south end of the • Village, mostly on Triphammer Road. As a result of these complaints we have been requested to provide additional street lighting in some dark areas where female students walk during the hours of darkness. I would like to recommend that you approve the immediate lighting changes as listed on the attached memorandum, which would cost a total of $88.35 annually. An auction will be held on Saturday, October 21, 1972 at 10:00 A.M. at the Cayuga Heights Fire Station to sell abandoned property acquired over the years by the police department, mainly bicycles. With the discontinuance of a school crossing guard position at the intersection of The Parkway and Hanshaw Road, Albert Cicchetti, who was the school guard chose to resign rather than continue on a call basis. Mr. Cicchetti has served faithfully since 1964 and I would recommend that the Village Board of Trustees make a resolution thanking him for his long and faithful service and sending him a letter to this effect. The part -time officers worked 137 hours and the full -time officers worked 11 hours overtime during September. Respectfully submitted, //" lwcf,P, • Harlin R. Mc Ewen Chief of Police HRM:bp
