POLICE DEPARTMENT
VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS
To: Hon. Frederick G. Marcham, Mayor
Members of the Board of Trustees
Village of Cayuga Heights
Subject: Activities of the Police Department for August 1972
The Police Department handled 59 complaints and investigated
4 motor vehicle accidents. There were 65 traffic tickets and
10 parking tickets issued during the month.
There was 1 felony and 20 misdemeanors investigated. There were
5 criminal mischief or vandalism complaints received during the
month. This continues to be a source of concern and the amount
of vandalism appears to be increasing with no indication as to
the reason. The amount of property reported lost or stolen was
$277.00 and the amount of property recovered was $315.00.
I have investigated complaints concerning the traffic control signs
at the intersection of Wyckoff Road and Kline Road and the intersection
of The Parkway and Highgate Road. I have discussed the matter with Village
Engineer John Rogers and he agrees that we should recommend that the
Yield Signs at Wyckoff and Kline Roads be changed to Stop Signs and
the Stop Sign at The Parkway and Highgate Road should be changed to
a Yield Sign. I would like to request that a public hearing be
scheduled before the monthly board meeting October 16, 1972
concerning these changes.
I have been asked by the Law Enforcement- Community Relations Committee
of Greater Ithaca to request the Village to consider an appropriation
toward the cost of a staff position for the committee. Details of
this position have yet to be completed awaiting decision of the various
groups involved as to the amount they are willing to appropriate. I
have attached copies of two recent memorandums concerning the committee
and a job description of the proposed staff position. I will be
prepared to discuss this matter with the Board at the meeting on
September 19th inasmuch as the committee needs a decision not later
than October 1st, 1972.
The part -time officers worked 106j hours and the full -time officers
worked 9 hours overtime during August.
