POLICE DEPARTMENT
VILLAGE OF CAYWA HEIGHTS
To: Hon. Frederick G. Marcham, Mayor
Members of the Board of Trustees
Village of Cayuga Heights
Subject: Activities of the Police Department for July 1972
The Police Department handled 52 complaints and investigated 5 motor
vehicle accidents. There were 40 traffic tickets and 10 parking
tickets issued during the month.
There were 2 felonies investigated and 17 misdemeanors. One
stolen car was recovered which was stolen from Bethlehem, Pa, and
the driver arrested and turned over to Military authorities as
a deserter. One person was arrested for issuing a bad check and
this resulted in a recovery of $500. The amount of property
reported stolen was $496.05 and the amount of property recovered
was $1459.65.
• I have discussed the matter of school crossing guards with
school and PTA officials and they recommend that we discontinue
the school guard at the intersection of The Parkway and Renshaw
Road during the coming school year. Due to changes in the busing
of school children it appears there is no need for continuing a
guard at that location. I would like to recommend that the Village
Board discontinue this position but continue the crossing guard
who handled this intersection on a call basis. He could then be
called when the other guard is unavailable.
A stop sign was erected on a temporary basis at Oak Hill Place and
Oak'Hill Road on June 2, 1972. This sign has seemed to be satisfactory
and I would like to recommend that appropriate action be taken to
enact an ordinance to cover it permanently.
The part -time officers worked 142 hours and the full -time officers
worked 15 hours overtime during July.
