HomeMy WebLinkAboutFire Department Report for June 1972O CAYUGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT FOR JUNE 1972 The department responded to 7 alarms of fire and 17 incidents during the month. Eleven of the incidents were storm related, flooding, etc. To assist the Corning area, at the request of the County Fire Coordinator, the department sent the portable pump to the Corning Fire Department. Our departmental policy on flooded cellars and the like is: we investigate the situation and if an emergency exists we assist the owner in shutting down gas and electric service. We then advise him to secure the services of a commercial establishment to pump his cellar and restore his property to a safe and sanitary condition. The reason for this policy is that we rely on volunteers for manpower and our pumping capacity is limited to one portable pump. It would not be possible to provide equal service to everyone calling if we pumped cellars. This policy seems to meet the need for emergency service and apparently is satisfactory to the residents of the fire protection area. At the end of six months our total responses show an increase of 14. Response to alarms of fire decreased by 4, responses to other incidents increased by 18. This again reflects the growing national trend to call the fire department for non -fire emergencies. Break down is as- follows: Alarms of Fire: Total 26 Village 15 Loss $3,200 Town 8 Loss 260 Mutual aid 3 Incidents: Total. 38 Village 21 Town 17 J Ned G. Boice Fire Chief
