Subject: Activities of the Police Department for May 1972
The Police Department handled 75 complaints and investigated 8 motor
vehicle accidents. There were 67 traffic tickets and 13 parking
tickets issued during the month.
There was one felor{y investigated which involved a burglary at the
Cayuga Heights Elementary School. 23 misdemeanors were investigated
which included 7 petit larceny cases, 5 criminal mischief cases, 9
bad check cases and 2 criminal trespass cases. The amount of property
reported stolen was $555.60 and the amount of property recovered was
$364.6o.
The Department assisted the Tompkins County Sheriff's Department in
licensing bicycles at the tdortheast Elementary School on Saturday,
May 27th.
The part -time officers worked 159 hours and the full -time officers
worked 41 hours overtime during May. There were 245 hours of
compensatory time, vacation time and holiday time accrued during
the fiscal year by the full -time officers which was outstanding
on May 31st. This was due to personnel changes and scheduling
problems and has been carried over to the new fiscal year.
During May, Chief McEwen and Sergeant Darling attended four
sessions of a training program entitled "Public Safety Management"
at the New York State School of Industrial and Labor Relations,
Cornell University. There was no cost involved as the program
was completely supported by the I. &'L. R. School.
