HomeMy WebLinkAboutEngineer's Report May 1972VILLAGE OF CAYUGA IEIGHTS REPORT OF THE EDIGIHEER NAY 1972 It is the opinion of the Public Works Foreman and the people with whom he has consulted that some of the excess mechanical trouble we have had with the Brockway truck which carries our packer results from the use of high -teat gas. As you may recall, about five years ago to meet the requests of the Fire Company and Police Department we switched from regular gas to high -test gas in the Village supply tank. I request now that we switch back to regular gas in the tank or that a separhte tank be set up for the Village trucks and construction equipment. I have asked the general foreman to set up a temporary supply of regular gas for the trucks and in particular the Brockway truck. Advertisements and requests for bids for a 20 -cubic yard packer body have gone out. Bid opening is scheduled for Monday, May 15, 1972 at noon and result of the bidding should be available for the Village Board meeting that evening. The replacement of 300 feet of C inch sewer line on Highgate Road has been completed. The Town of Lansing has been doing repair work on indicated infiltration leaks in sewer lines located in their municipality. They have also done inspections to find additional leaks. Trustee Fisher and the Engineer viewed a demonstration of the sewer line infiltration testing equipment that was used by the Town of Lansing contractor, Bill Auble. The apparatus which uses the principle of air • pressure pumped into a short section of the sewer line seemed to be most effective and easy to use. This apparatus is available for rent from Mr. Auble at $40 an hour which includes two operators. He will not rent the equipment without his men operating it. It is the opinion of the engineer that this piece of leak detecting apparatus should be purchased by the Village. When it is not in use by Village forces it would be available for rent to the Town of Lansing and the Town of Ithaca so they could further locate their infiltration losses alsp: A request to the manufacturer of this test apparatus has been sent for a quotation on price. The Engineer and the Treasurer have met with the representatives of the Town of Lansing, Town of Dryden and the Town of Ithaca to discuss the financing of the proposed intermunicipal water supply facility at Bolton Point and the resulting costa of transmission lines.
