HomeMy WebLinkAboutEngineer's Report Sept 1971VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS REPORT OF. THE ENGINDER September 1971 • I. Streets Surface treating to seal the roads that were paved with the motor paver this year is expected to be carried out in the mid part of September, weather permitting. Also, it is hoped to surface treat Renshaw Road through the commercial shopping area in the Village if traffic can be sufficiently controlled. This will complete the annual street paving program. II. Sewer Plant Plans and specifications for the first stage of the sewer treatment plant alterations and additions have gone out to bid. The engineer's estimate on the cost of construction is $130,000. The Engineer and the Sewer Plant Operator met with Mr. Valle of Teetor - Dobbins on problems of the present plant that should be included in the alteration and additional plans plus cooperation between Teetor- Dobbins and our plant operation during the final stages of design. A letter was written to the City asking for a map showing the roads over which fill could be trucked from the Village Sewage Plant to a disposal area in the City. Also a letter guaranteeing to accept this fill was received from the City. A problem here that is being investigated is that the map seems to indicate that the fill is to be deposited in a small abandoned channel of the Inlet. • III. Fire Station Difficulty was incurred in the motor paving operation in laying down the driveway for the Fire Station. It is the opinion of the Engineer that the emulsion mix was not correct and the operator of the motor paver, a Koppers Company employee, did not do a good job. For best results in the long range the best procedure now would be to allow the driveway to compact under the traffic from the fire trucks and next spring put another leveling coat on the driveway which would then be sealed by a surface treatment. IV. Trees Another three or four days was spent by our entire work crew removing elm wood which had been cut and put by the roadside. None of this work was elm wood cut by the S & S Tree Company. The S & S Tree Company that received the award of bids for removal of 36 trees in the Village right -of -way did a good job. All trees were removed, all stumps were cut close to the ground and leaves and small branches were raked and hauled away.. It is recommended that the total contract price be paid to this company. V. Sewer Lines A crew of men have been put on the project of locating every sewer manhole. Where the manhole cover is below street level because of paving they are being raised to where they will be easily found in the future. Also, during • this process all lines are being flushed and a record made of lines that would need periodic flushing. ,,' Engineer's Report • VI. Inspection of Smith Property Problem • 41 Page 2 Along with Trustees Fogg and Nulle, the Engineer inspected the problem further with Mr. Smith and at the Trustee's suggestion it was agreed that a catch basin would be placed in front of the driveway culvert east of the side of the road east of the Smith property and also a catch basin directly in front of the culvert that goes under the road carrying water onto the Smith property. VII. Fall Planting Within the next month our plans are to do fall planting around the Village Hall and around the Fire House as well as a couple of places that need reseeding due to sewer line work.
