REPORT OF THE ENGINEER
OCTOBER 1971
• I. Streets
Striping of streets with traffic control paint has been started by the
same private firm that does the work for the County Highway Department.
Because of rainy weather the work had to be stopped. It will be completed
as soon as the weather permits.
II. Sewer Plant
Bids will be received at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 12, 1971 at the
Village Hall for the first stage of the sewer plant alterations and
additions. Mr. Valle of Teetor- Dobbins will be present. A report on
the bids will be available at the regular Board meeting.
When the original Sewage Treatment Plant was constructed the land which
was purchased in the Town of Ithaca outside the Village boundaries for
the Sewage Treatment Plant was annexed to the Village. It would seem
to be advantageous to annex into the Village the property we have
acquired from Leonard B. Liberman through condemnation for additions to
the Treatment Plant. It is suggested that the matter be referred to
the Village Attorney to determine what steps should be taken to proceed
with the annexation.
III. Fire Station
All grading and grass seeding has been completed as scheduled at the
Fire Station. Old lawns that needed regrading were also leveled and
reseeded. At present we are waiting for delivery of trees and bushes
to complete the planting.
IV. Village Hall
Grading, grass seeding and digging of foundation planting beds has been
completed. As soon as bushes for the foundation planting are delivered
the fall planting can be completed. Because of the possible hazard of
the hollow; apple trees west of the Village Hall they will be removed.
Suitable trees to replace these will be planted in an area where they
will not interfere with future development of our parking area.
V. Leaf Pickup
Working at times when weather did not permit outside work, the Village
crew was able to rebuild a leaf vacuum machine that was originally purchased
for spare parts. Now the Village has two leaf vacuums ready for the fall
leaf removal. An area on Village property east of the barns has been cleared
and an area set aside for storage of leaves. After decomposition this will
make an excellent source of top soil for Village use.
VI. Salt Storage
A roof has been constructed and sidewalls built to enclose the Village
• salt bin. This will make it possible to store a greater amount of salt
without loss due to rain or scattering.
