• Report for June 1971
There were 7 fire alarms in June resulting in an estimated $1900 in fire loss
and one personal injury (to a resident of Hasbrouck Apartments). This injury
was minor in nature - first degree burns of face and arms.
The fire company voted at its last meeting to thank the Board for approving funds
to purchase carpeting for the company room but decided that this was more appropri-
ately a company expense and voted to buy the carpeting out of company funds.
The building program is nearing completion, the prime contractor has completed
except for some minor items, the architect has made an inspection and has given
the contractor a list of minor items to complete or repair, the sprinkler instal-
lation is also complete and tested with the exception of some repair work where
piping was installed. I would like to comment on the excellent cooperation hetween
the Village Work Force, the City of Ithaca Water Department and the sprinkler
contractor. The installation of the 6" service was completed without any serious
problems or delay. The painters have started to work and the phone company will
have the phones installed within the next few days. The building should be
operational within a week or so and with permission of the contractor we are using
the truck bays now. Engineer Rogers has contacted me on several occasions and
plans to install the gravel base for the rear drive as soon as the work force
completes several jobs now in process.
The residents of the Village and fire protection district by now have received or
• shortly will receive a letter advising them of the time and routing of the parade
on July 31. The fire company is planning to entertain visiting firemen with a
coffee hour each evening and also to show several training and informational films
each of the three evenings of the convention. There have been some complaints
from the residents on the route of the parade, who will surely be seriously incon-
venienced that Saturday afternoon when Warren, Hanshaw and North Triphammer Roads
are completely shut off to traffic for several hours. We can expect more complaints
after the parade date. The Fire Department and Police Department are making
comprehensive plans to handle the crowds and traffic on that date. Fire Police,
Tompkins County Emergency Corps, ambulances etc. have been arranged for, one engine
and a crew will be stationed at the Collins residence on Hanshaw Road to insure
fire protection for the Northeast, the rest of the area can still be covered from
our own station.
Permission is requested for the fire chief to be given authority to approve purchases
not to exceed $350, out of the building fund, for material to build workbenches,
steel shelving, steel hose racks, coat and boot racks, and also some needed chalk
and bulletin boards. This should substantially complete the building program
except for driveways and paving expenses.
Word was just received that our free installation of the pole for antennas has
probably fallen through. Permi=on is also requested to have the pole installed
by a local contractor.
Respectfully submitted,
• Ned G. Boice
