VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS
REPORT OF THE ENGINEER
• JULY 1971
1. Sewer Plant
High flow readings at the Sewerage Plant led to the discovery that our flow
meter was giving incorrect information. The manufacturer has been notified
and an authorized field representative is in the process of correcting this
meter. Information was received that 32 town house units are to be con-
structed on Graham Road. They will be connected to the Lansing sewer system,
therefore the effluent will be treated at the Village Treatment Plant.
2. Alterations and Additions to the Sewer Plant
At the request of our engineers Teetor - Dobbins, Mr. Thomas Miller was authorized
to provide a topographic survey of the area over which a new interceptor sewer
line will be constructed from old Remington Road under Route 13 and to the
plant. This is part of the overall improvement project which has been approved
by the State and Federal Government. It is this line that the engineers will
first design and have under construction by March 31, 1972 to comply with the
requirements of the State agency.
3. Sewer Lines
1400 feet of 10 -inch sewer line has been replaced in the Village during the
current fiscal year. The majority of this work was done on the Savage Farm
sewer main which should prove effective in reducing infiltration. Other sections
of 10 -inch line were replaced on North Sunset Drive. Also an additional 300 feet
of 8 -inch line were replaced in a stub line to the east of 106 Cayuga Park Road.
200 to 300 additional feet of 8 -inch line are under construction at the present.
time at 111 Midway Road.
4. Streets
At the suggestion of one of the Trustees additional possibilities for mowing
Village streets and empty lots was explored. When it was determined that this
source of work had inadequate equipment to handle the job our public works
foreman proceeded with the purchase of a mower as authorized at the last Board
meeting. From all I can determine this purchase of a used mower was of good
value and should serve the Village well. The streets and empty lots are in
the process of being mowed for the first time this season.
The surfacing of streets has been scheduled for the first week in August by
our public works foreman and with the help and cooperation of the Town of Ithaca
men and equipment. Large quantities of crushed stone have been trucked into
the Village storeyard for this annual project.
A road ditching machine was rented to clean and reshape some ditches throughout
the Village. Additional work is needed throughout the Village in other ditch
lines.
5. New Fire House Additions
• Approval was given for the contractor to pour the concrete in the floor of the
new engine bay where it was left until the sprinkler system was completed. The
contractor's cost for pouring this small section of floor will be $25.

The back driveway to the new engine bays has been laid out, excavation and
backfill with 2 feet of gravel will be completed before the end of the month.
It is hoped to pave this area at the time when we are paving streets.
Planting and seeding around the new fire house is scheduled for September 1971
which will give time for approval of proposed planning by the Fire Council and
the Trustees. It also will be a much better time of year for transplanting
and for lawn seeding work.
