HomeMy WebLinkAboutFire Department Report for Jan 1971• CAYUGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT Report for January 1971 January alarms totaled three, all of a minor nature with less than $100 damage. Two alarms were within the Village and one in the Town of Ithaca. Average response was 18.7 men per alarm. There were two assists, one an oxygen call and the other investigation of a ruptured hot water heater to determine if a fire hazard existed. Engine I encountered some transmission problems and was out of service for three days. Repairs were completed by American LaFrance under warranty. The unit is now back in service and performs even better than new since ALFCO made some factory modifications on the trans- mission at the time of repair. The Fire Council met in January to consider the budget for 1971 -72 and made every effort to hold the line. Our budget last year was $18,400 + $5500 from the equipment reserve fund. This year our request is for a total of $24,885 as against last year's total of $23,900. It is planned to be able to reduce our equipment requests after the 1972 -73 budget. At this point in our department improvement program we should have most of the items recommended for immediate purchase by the NYFPRO in their 1969 report on our fire defenses. The next major item being replacement of Engine II in 1974 -75. The status of the hose dryer, though still uncertain at this point, is that we will recover $675 from the insurance company and order a new one for $995 making our share of the costs $320 plus freight.
