HomeMy WebLinkAboutFire Department Report for July 19710 CAYUGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT FOR JULY 1971 There were six fire alarms and four assists handled by the department in July. Taro fire alarms were within the Village and the balance were mutual aid responses. (Three to Lansing and one to Freeville.) The assists were a request for oxygen, rescue of a cat trapped in a fireplace cleanout pit, standby at a motor vehicle accident and investigation of smoke in an area. Fire loss in the Village was $500 for the month. Ladder Truck - There was no response from our bid to Corning therefore I recently checked w th Chief Weaver and found that he does not expect delivery of his truck for three and perhaps six months. This results in no change in our program except to delay our putting the truck in service. Building Program - The contractor has made only minor progress towards completion because of delayed material delivery. It is suggested that no further payments be made until completion. The sprinkler contractor has not completed and it is recommended that no payment be made until the job is complete. (The sprinkler system is operational and we have protection.) The Village work force has completed grading and placing the gravel base in the drives and paving will be done when the paver is in the Village on other work. Our pole was installed at no charge. The Fire Council for reasons explained in the attached minutes suggests that the existing painting contract be canceled and a new contract be let. Trustee Nelson has more information on this if any board member wishes to discuss it with him. A group of the volunteers have recently painted the company room, front hall and lavatory, they also installed the carpet in the company room. The same group also completed painting of the office - communications room so that it would be operational for the parade. The building is now completely operational and the Trustees are urged to inspect at any time. Parade - The parade and other convention activity was carried off without any problems. This can mainly be attributed to the excellent planning of policing of the parade by Sgt. McEwen and the cooperation of our volunteers, County Ambulance Service, Civil Defense Police, REACT and other persons who so generously donated time, material and effort to insure that the parade was a success and the safety of all concerned was assured. Fire Alarm System - Letters were received from both school districts and the system for receiving alarms from the school was ordered shortly after the last meeting of the Board. Some components have been received and the system should be operational by the time schools open in the Fall. Ned G. Boice Fire Chief
