HomeMy WebLinkAboutFire Department Report 9/14/1970FIRE DEPARTMENT VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS J 194 Pleasant Grove Road Ithaca, New York September 14, 1970 • Hon. Frederick G. Marcham, Mayor Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Gentlemen: August shows a total of 9 alarms. Four of these were false alarms. None of the false alarms were malicious and three were directly traced to malfunctions in the leased telephone line connecting Cayuga Heights School to the fire station. The other alarms were all of a rountine nature. Our average response when the alerting devices were activated was again excellent 19.3 men. Repairs to apparatus and equipment have made serious inroads into our repair budget. Every effort is being made to stay within our repair budget but we have experienced a series of costly breakdowns. The main items being: the main alerting siren, Engine 2 failing its annual pump test, Engine 3 failing its annual pump test, and Engine 1 with a difficult to locate short which caused the batteries to go dead. The reasons for these breakdowns vary but mostly they reflect increased use of apparatus for both fire fighting and training, increase in the amount of apparatus and equipment, increasing age of apparatus and equipment. As the time approaches for negotiation of next years fire protection contracts •with the towns of Ithaca and Lansing the Fire Council will make some suggestions to the trustees in the near future. As a start the following figures show the sources of alarms. This carries out another of the NYFPRO's suggestions. The building program is now awaiting final plans and specifications from Tallman and Thomas. The latest word from their office is that these will not be ready for this meeting. We do have available the preliminary floor and site drawings which the fire council has approved so that the final drawings could be made. These will be available at the September meeting. Approval to purchase the following items is requested. There are funds in the budget for these items. 2 Steel storage shelves - • - 24 Fire fighting brooms - - Air tank refill station - - 24 pair firemen's gloves - - - $ 28.4o - - 33.36 (State Contract Price) - - 82.45 72.00 T2-1-6—.2-1 RespecfuLly submitted, Red G.
