VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGHTS
REPORT OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
October 9, 1970
September.shows a total of 7 alarms and a fire loss of $2,400. All of the alarms
were of a routine nature except for a malicious false alarm and a vehicle fire
on Route 13 which presented a very hazardous extinguishment problem since the
truck involved was carrying 4 tanks of explosive gas used for welding and cutting.
Chief Weaver granted us the use of his Fire Training Center on 3 occasions in
September. Drilling and training hours totaled 16132. man hours.
Average response was down somewhat to 15.2 men. This reflects the fact that most
of the alarms were during the day when our volunteers are at work.
The annual company picnic was attended by over 200 persons. Everyone seemed to
have an enjoyable afternoon. This year the use of sirens and red lights was
restricted to the time the vehicles were in "A Lot ". This reduced the confusion
which existed in previous years causing area drivers to complain about a fire
truck full of women and /or children forcing them to the shoulders of the road.
Mike Day has been appointed as a provisional bunker. This brings our resident
status up to normal.
Five volunteers and myself attended the annual Fire Conference in Homer on
Saturday, September 19, 1970. It is recommended that these men be reimbursed
the registration fee of $2.00 and a $2.00 meal allowance. Total cost to be $24.00.
The men attending were: Chief Boice, Chief Collins, Resident R. Day, Bunker
D. Barnes, Fireman R. French and Fireman G. Moravec.
The final drawings for the addition to the Fire Station will be presented at
this meeting if approved by the Fire Council on October 15.
Ned G. Boice
